I am posting because I see the units running around in leather armor with plate mail proficiency. Maybe, occasionally, they might upgrade, but I've not seen it. I just don't think it is a good idea. I'd much rather see more "intelligent" design: plate and chain mail proficiency by defenders once the tech has been researched, not before. There are other traits to choose as well!

The pre-made unit designs still choose Plate Mail proficiency and Chain Mail proficiency far too early. The fact that these templates are suggested for the player to use long before the player has researched the technology allowing her to actually train units with chain mail or plate mail is not terribly bothersome (I always simply edit it away), but it does hamper the AI. The AI often wanders around with units who could have had a different train or at least not wasted production

Recently, Steam has been taking about 4 minutes with this little popup window when I start LH. I'm not sure I understand why, and it's quite frustrating for a single-player game. What has happened that requires Steam to connect for upwards of 240 seconds?

Thanks so much! Am I correct in understanding those first "benchmark" pages http://www.cpubenchmark.net/laptop.html # to indicate that the difference between the 9th and the 10th performing chip is negligable (7968 vs. 7764, whatever thoses numbers mean, a difference of 2,6% or so), but the difference between my current one (which is listed at 1677) is quite large (46% ??) ? Probabaly the Acer is li

Thank you very very much for this excellent and helpful reply. Two brief follow-up questions, if I may. a. Why do some games (apparently the single-threaded ones) only use one core? What do the other cores then do when only one is used to process the (main) application? And why do some games use this single-threaded technology? (I do have SoaSE, although haven't played it in 2 years.) b. You say the 670MX is (slightly) inferior to the 760M. Why does th

I am a bit of a computer idiot looking to replace my 3.5 year old Vaio laptop. This one has an Intel Dual Core P8700 chip which claims to have 2.53 GHz, and has an ATI Radeon Mobility 4650 graphics card (I cannot find out how much dedicated memory), running Windows 7 Home Premium on 6GB of RAM. I am looking at two replacements, and would like to know which you believe to be the one which offers "more" (for the $$). 1. The first is the Acer I found <a href="http://ww

Thanks! What about
4. Is 8GB ram enough with windows 8, or is 16 needed, or does anyone really get 32? 5. Is there a notable difference between the 640M, 650M, 670M, 670MX, 760M or 770M graphic cards? 6. Is there a notable advantage to the Asus cooling system, or a serious disadvantage to Acer's (because the Asus is much more expensive)?
thanks much EDIT: In particular, I see

Sorry, I'm just going to ask the couple of questions I had left again because I think it may be overlooked: 4. Is 8GB ram enough with windows 8, or is 16 needed, or does anyone really get 32? 5. Is there a notable difference between the 640M, 650M, 670M, 670MX, 760M or 770M graphic cards? 6.
Thank you for these replies. I had looked at the Acer a while ago, but was unsure because of the keyboard and the cooling system, the latter of which seems to be superior in the Asus (dual rear vents). I'm not sure where to order from in Germany, there doesn't really seem to be something equivalent to NewEgg and the like in America -- unless someone knows of something? I really need a German keyboard, which i

Thank you for these replies. I really need a German keyboard, which is why I didn't buy a device elsewhere.

Hi all, back here in Germany where everything is more expensive and less flexible, I'm hesitant about buying a new laptop because I'm unsure of a couple of things and need some advice. I'm pretty bad at technical things. I had wanted to buy an Asus G75VW, but apparently you can't get them anymore (at least here), so I am looking at something similar. Here are some questions: 1. Are there any graphic cards that I really should avoid / really ought to hav
Just played a game where 2 factions were repeatedly stealing an outpost from each other.
Never seen this. The AI intentionally not taking things it should because otherwise the player would be at a disadvantage is, I hope, NOT in any algorithms Brad is utilizing.

On anything larger than a small map, I train more than 20 units, because I enjoy that aspect (unit design) of the game, and I'd like at least the option to train units and have them sent to a rally point.

11 Replies 10,411 Views

Wow that really surprises me. I can see that as feasible for tiny maps, but not for anything approaching 10x10 or larger. But I take it you are saying that there is no way currently to set rally points. If so, I agree that there are more serious issues to address immediately, but I do believe that this should be looked into for 1.4 or 1.5, as I do believe it is a "standard" in grand strategy and has been for some years.

As abob101 says above, I am experiencing this behavior in new games. I'm surprised, because I know AI is Brad's speciality and something he cares about a lot, and the AI here seems to be poorer than any I can remember.

Allies with which I have full treaties and who have build a city in a valley will entirely and permanently block my movement through that area, effectively removing me from the game. (To a less severe extent, the same can be true of friendly units, which also seem to block movement). Is it WAD that we cannot move through friendly allied cities?

I'm really surprised to see the AI in 1.2 continue to act as if it were blind. It continues to fail to take zero-risk opportunities, such as refusing to take unguarded green goodie huts and unguarded outposts. But it is also incredibly passive. By this I mean that the AI will often not attack unguarded cities or weak armies. It's bewildering at times!

17 Replies 4,840 Views

I've only seen this while attacking enemy cities so far, but in three different instances my army leader will not show up in the battle when attacking an enemy city. In all three cases so far the battle report afterwards reported that the leader died (it was a champion each time, the leader of the army). Each time it also involved full 9-unit armies.

I could have sworn I had seen people talking about this, but fail to be able to do it myself. I find myself misclicking in tactical combat a lot due to hills in the way of where I need to go / attack, and would hence like to rotate. Thanks much

When I set a city queue to train up a bunch of units, and I want them all sent to location L, how do I do this? I can't seem to find a way and appear to have to manually tell each one to travel to the destination by point-and-click. What am I missing? Thanks
