Hey everyone. I've been with Elemental for quite awhile and I really do love the game. The only thing I wish was that my troops were a bit more varied. I've thought of a few ways of spicing up troop diversification.
I would love for arcane weaponry to not be as much as an equal alternative to melee weaponry but rather enchanted weaponry be reserved for your strongest troops. So...
Enchanted Weaponry Scales with appropriate shards
Currently it seems to me that enchanted weaponry has slightly less physical damage then their counterparts but then supplement it with increased elemental damage. It would be cool to see if your nation controlled 3 fire shards then you would have an appropriate increase in damage then if you had 1 shard, for example burning axe would do 7+2 FIre damage + (2*Fire Shards) Fire damage or something to similar effect.
More Magical Armor Types
Right now the only thing we get is the legendary armor set in the arcane branch, it's cool to think your nation discovers the secrets of creating a super strong alloy through metals and crystal but it would be neat to have some other magical armor sets. For example, an armor set that gives fire resistance based on the # of water shards you control and vice versa, get that typical elemental rock/paper/scissors going on.
Scaling Magic Items
The magic items you unlock for your troops are a bit lackluster, it would be nice to also see them scale with the shards you control or maybe scale with level.
More Abilities tied to items/Gainable "Traits" by levelling
The one thing I enjoy in Civ5 a bit more then elemental is the fact that when your troops level up they can gain traits that effect their combat efficiency in certain scenarios. It would be nice to have infantry that have some abilities. An example would be the lighting pike granting a "jump like" ability not different from old-school Final Fantasy dragoons, Fits in with the element and gives some good variety rather then just having all your troops be right-click units. Or have units with certain "traits" selected from unit creation gain new abilities when leveling up. For example, you create a new infantry unit with the bloodthirsty trait. At level 3 they would gain an additional +2 to attack after killing a unit, then at level 5 they would gain a new ability such as "savage strike" that has a chance of causing fear or something. I think this would be a really cool way to have leveling provide unique benefits other then just increased health/accuracy.
I want to hear what everyone thinks, good or bad these are just some ideas I've had floating around that would be able to diversify infantry gameplay. Please share your ideas! Or tell me mine suck!
