Since I've come to this forum, people have been complaining that your saves/autosaves are broken. I have come up with my work around. If you save right before you hit [Turn] your save actually is a good one - no one loses a turn, the AI is not stalled, construction proceeds as it should. At any other time, save are suspect, and of course, the autosave is completely and utterly broken.
But. I am trying to play Ironman, and sometimes the game crashes. And being human, when things get interesting, I forget to save. I just won a effing battle for Yithril's capital on ridiculous, because of the shaky multi-threading there is a pileup of attacks on the city, some by AIs I am NOT at war with, and the game crashes.
Ok, I reload from the Autosave. Woops. First of all, it's four turns back. I guess the new version overwrote my settings. My fault, I had to disable autoturn and enable manual placement, so I guess I should have checked everything else. Thanks the powers that be, there is another autosave. But, as I try to do what I did before, it turns out, things are not quite proceeding the same way... Verga makes to a library to which I earlier beat him, my construction finishes too late to start the Merchantcross Bazaar.
Oh. The autoturn saved at the beginning of the turn, but I got no production, no research and no move for the turn? What the eff? I have personally posted at least three threads asking that if you cannot fix the effing save mechanism at least that you make the autosave at the end of the effing turn, so that the game is not completely effed up.
Anyway, I rage quit that game.
Yes, one turn makes a huge difference in this game.
No, you cannot release a game in 2012 which has a BROKEN autosave, not if your game can ever crash.
