Out of pure luck I noticed that Maggies Ring and Maggie's Key were in the design unit screen and you could add it to new unit designs, is this intended? It should be noted that I havent even completed the quest since the wolves pwnt my face when I attempted to go into the forest, then I managed to survive the killing blow 
The other ring in the screen shot below is aquired through research, I assume that one is supposed to be there lol.
