Adjustable Game Timers
One important feature from Heroes_3 and AgeofWonders is the adjustable game time. The AgeofWonders:ShadowMagic allowed for the game timer to be adjustable thus during the early stages the game timer could be 4mins and as the game progressed the timer could be gradually increased each time the game was being loaded. The game timer not only helped prevent players from taking too long, but also allowed the game to continue when a computer opponent would fail to end its turn. Even the independents on the map should have some type of game time limit because it's a terrible feeling when the game is unplayable with AI opponents never ending their turn.
Another game timer I recommend gets added is during the creation of the game map. Today I started a game and during the map creation the game was either caught in a loop or was just hung because the map creation screen never ended. If we could configure a game timer then perhaps the map would eventually appear or at least crash with a more useful debug as compared to the gamer having to use task manager to kill the application.
