Beta versions poll the servers for the latest XML files so that the devs can update them without needing to publish a new update via Impulse. This behavior can be disabled by a command line switch, or avoided by simply not opting in for beta updates. It is not present at all in release versions.
always been that way, though not certain why.
It allows the devs to push out updated XML files without needing to restage on Impulse.

Downloading the Visual C++ 2005 Runtime from Microsoft's website and installing it should sort this. It should be installed by default with the game, but may not have for some reason.
I've been experiencing crashes and OOM reports for version 1.11 and am trying to send you the debug file and my most recently saved game. How do I share my dropbox folder with Stardock so that you can access the files? And I can't find the Windows 7 folder C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic. I see a "program files" folder and a "program files (x86)" folder but nowhere do I see a "programdata" folder on the c drive or in my documents.
<a href

When did you order it? As noted on the shipping information at checkout, international boxed orders ship USPS International First Class and can take 2-3 weeks to arrive. Local customs may also cause delays.

If BRAVIA doesn't support Matroska format, you'll need to either manually convert the files to a supported format, use a transcoder such as Tversity (as mentioned above), or just use the TV directly with the computer.

Please open your debug.err file in notepad, and link the contents into a post here via [link="http://pastebin.ca"]pastebin[/link]. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem. The file can be found in My Documents\My Games\Elemental Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug log will be erased and recreated for the new session.
Steam->Go offline. No more pinging the home-base. After you're done playing, kill Steam w/ the game. Its two extra clicks.
The onus to do this shouldn't be on the user. Never mind that you have to be online to enable offline mode in the first place, so it's useless if you experience an unplanned connectivity loss.

If you purchased with Paypal and you use a different email address there, the game may have been registered to that address. If that's the case, you can fix it by entering your Paypal email on the left and your impulse email on the right on this page . If you used a credit card, if the billing information you entered differs from that on the card, the transaction may have been put on hold pending manual verification. If this

Unless you want to manage outgoing traffic or are using public networks, there's little reason to use any firewall software on a machine that's behind a NAT router (which is most routers). Any unsolicited inbound traffic will be ignored at the router unless you've expressly forwarded the port it's coming on. Though granted (concerning outbound traffic) most people these days would rather have an app to tell them what's going on rather than exercise caution and awareness regarding brow

You didn't actually link the section detailing your video card/drivers, but if it's an ATI card, disable Adaptive Anti-aliasing in the CCC and it should sort the problem.

If clearing the screens folder hasn't done the job, the next thing to try would be a full reinstall.
A weird thing happens when I try to run dxdiag.exe. I get the message "Error: Could not load DXDIAGN.DLL". I go to the system32 folder, and both dxdiag.exe and dxdiagn.dll are there right next to each other.
That's probably the cause of the problem then. Go ahead and email [email protected] about this, they may be able to help figure it out.
