Please contact about this directly if you're still having the issue. I believe the game was completely re-staged after the office reopened this week, so it should not be happening any longer.
Yea, hello, I'm Xia, everyone already knows this is who I am.
And if you can't respond to other users rationally (even if they're wrong), you know what you will be. As to those objecting to this announcement, Brad has commented about it:
At the end of the day, my job is to make sure we produce incredibly good games. Please post a dxdiag report. You can do so by: Click Start->Run-> type in dxdiag and click OK. Once it finishes, click the Save All button, give it a name, then open that file up in Notepad, copy+paste everything to pastebin.com or similar, and post the link here (please do not paste the report directly here as very long texts like that can make the page difficult to read).

Generally users have found that sort of graphical corruption to be a result of driver issues (upgrade cruft in particular). If you're already on the latest, you might try using a driver cleaner to wipe them out then reinstall them.
I wonder what reason they have for not doing this themselves.
It has the potential to cause DirectX errors.
If it's stopping while loading fonts, it's likely something's just corrupted--try reinstalling via Impulse.
The general sites have a broader variety of forums, but only a limited set of subforums from each. It'd be too much to navigate if they were all on there.
Please open your debug.err file in notepad, and link the contents into a post here via [link="http://pastebin.ca"]pastebin[/link]. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem. The file can be found in My Documents\My Games\Elemental Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug log will be erased and recreated for the new session.
If the setting isn't sticking, it's because your particular video card/chipset does not support it (memory is a major factor, but not the only one).
Check that you don't have any units on autoexplore that aren't using up their moves (boats in particular). That's usually the cause of such issues.
For the latter, you should be able to work around that issue by disabling auto-end-turn in the options.
If you're playing the campaign, saves for that are stored separately and can be loaded from the campaign screen, rather than the general load screen (used for sandbox saves).
Unspecified accusation, such as LujanD's, derail threads.
So does arguing about it. So just drop it and stay on topic, all of you.
Typically a BSOD is indicative of a hardware issue (ex: overheating, weak power supply) or driver failure. If it happens again, write down the details on the BSOD and it should allow you to get a better idea of what might be wrong.
Upload them to a host such as imageshack if you already have them, then link them here. Otherwise, Jing is a great way to take and annotate screenshots for illustrating issues you've encountered.

Try reinstalling. As it's hanging on loading the fonts, one of them was likely corrupted.

You might try going to Elemental\Fonts and installing the font manually, though it's hard to say how a video driver update would cause windows to unregister it.
When I try to start the game with a network connection active, but Elemental access blocked through firewall (zone alarm)
If the firewall is holding the connection, then the game is going to wait until the connection times out on the update check before proceeding because it registers as a live connection. Were it disabled entirely, it'd detect that and skip the check for updates.

As I recall our launchers are script based, so it's possible an overzealous antivirus app is interfering. That being said, it appears the game is failing to generate the screens, which could be caused by a corrupt install (which might also cause the launcher issue). You can try clearing out the C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\Screens folder. Failing that, a reinstall is the next thing to try.
Try disabling adaptive AA in the ATI CCC.
