Quoting Tuidjy, reply 32I also know that as late as 1.00 there were monsters who considered themselves allied to AIs (could use their roads) but that comes under 'bugs'. Anyone can use roads. But only members of the nation can go through improvements owned by that nation.
No, you are wrong. When you are inside someone else's territory, the roads will not work for you if you are at

This is getting slow, and I am afraid not so interesting... I am trying to illustrate some tricks in the play-through: rejuvenating, expanding with dominion push, etc... but I am not sure how much interest there is now that the game is firmly into the 'exploit' stage. By the way, I am deliberately avoiding some options that are open to me: at this point, Jack could solo big beasts by blinding them, and using his high dodge to scratch them to death. I coul
You cannot make a custom pioneer. Tarth has the stealth ability by default, and so could a custom race, but there's no such thing as a pioneer with 'ranger'. And that's a bad thing.
I've been playing this game since April. The vanilla is still holding my interest, and I look forward to trying mods. I would not recommend Fallen Enchantress to everyone, but I think that you may enjoy it. It has bugs, it has serious balance problems, and you will need to either spend months, ask questions or read guides in order to get every nuance of the innumerable strategies, tricks, and workarounds. I have a number of play-troughs posted on this board.&nb
Underneath your skills/spells, you have a number of buttons: pass, spells, etc... Lets say you want to hotkey a spell. Click on [Spells]. Find the spell you want. Click on the star to the right of the spell name. Click on the slot where you want it to go. I feel stupid typing this, so excuse me if it's obvious. If you want to hotkey a skill, click on [Skills], and if you want to hotkey an item, click on [Items] Note that if the spell
If the AI research cost is not affected by the epic/normal/fast setting, it's definitely a bug. That said, I never understood people who play on epic. The game never seemed too fast paced, and it has been slowed down two or three times since Beta 3. Why would you want to further slow it down? I think that the best way to play is Large map, all 8 AI opponents, and all settings to normal/moderate/default, then vary the world/AI difficulty in tandem. If th
Which is why my guide says: "Before you even move your Sovereign on turn one, set a research topic" It's not just libraries, other game locations award research which gets wasted if you do not have a topic selected.
I'm no developer, and I cannot fulfill requests, but I have a few fixes and workarounds. Initial formations: the game places ranged units in the back, so you may want to give your mage champions a ranged weapon, preferably one with high initiative. As for knowing where your resources are, check this screenshot... </
Turn 92-104 Relias is arrogant, but Jack's army seems to be keeping him subdued Turn 92: "Weaponry" finishes, and I target "Animal Husbandry". Conclave I finishes the sage, which extends its zone o
Are you blocking trade routes with your cities, or off in a corner?
Can you please rephrase this? I do not understand what you are asking. Trades routes are useful, and you cannot really block them. Caravans improve diplomatic relations, bring you 10% more taxable income in your capital, and act as scouts. You cannot block them - foreign caravans simply go through your cities, and your caravans go even where
By speaking softly, and carrying a big stick (speaking optional) The best way to have AIs respect you is to be able to kick their ass. Sometimes, a little preemptive ass kicking comes handy. For an example of how a race (that was deliberately designed without clear strengths) strives for respect on Expert difficulty, check this thread . If you read the whole thing, and do not learn anything, I will gladly
Quin, I may come as a bit condescending... Hell, I am condescending. Dominions 3 AI is beyond retarded. I must have played hundred MP games in Dominions 3. I stopped because my not-yet-wife asked me, but not before I won the first two official tournaments, not before the point when people were ganking me four at the time, and still losing... and not before I came up with quite a few strategies that forced Illwinter to change quite a few rules. Thanks for reminding me o
Check out Dominions 3. MP does not dumb down games.
Dominions III does not have any single player to speak of. I definitely understand why a someone who cares about single player would be afraid that an emphasis on multiplayer would negatively impact the single player experience.
I hate to say this, but there is nothing you're doing wrong. The upgrade system is borked, and has been for a while. This is old... If you read the linked post, you will see 'how' the system is misbehaving. Speaking for myself, I have developed an instinct about working around the mess that the upgrade system is. Here are some pointers, but these are just rules that SEEM to work for me. 1
While this trick works, and is indeed extremely effective, I think that it is significantly less powerful than the quest loop. At some point, I'll make a play-through to demonstrate the overwhelming effectiveness of the quest loop. The strategy is described here .
Yep. That's the problem: there really aren't any choices. OK, at this point, I have contacted all kingdoms, and it's unlikely that any of them will start any trouble: Altar is the only one that's stronger than me, but they are friendly so far, and Lord Relias is an adventurous monster-hunter, thus unlikely to start a war. I have trade and economy treaties with everyone, except for Altar - I have a tech treaty with them instead of a trade treaty. Of the Empires, I have only encountered Kraxis, and I have thoroughly cowed them.&n
I know that on higher difficulties the monsters have it for the player a lot more than for the AI. I think that on Challenging, the monsters treat players and the AIs the same way, barring bugs. I also know that as late as 1.00 there were monsters who considered themselves allied to AIs (
This started as awesome, now it's getting awesomer and awesomer...
Turns 82-91 Jack finally caught the Earth elemental and plugged the mana drain. No need for more Tremors. Turn 82: Farmstead II finishes the well and starts building
Lower difficulty makes monsters attacking your cities less likely. Also, most monsters need to be disturbed before they come after you. This is not a hard rule: wildland monsters roam without being awoken, some lairs generate patrols, humanoids set out to raid early. By the time you start playing near and above expert, you will need to have strategies to kill with monsters that come after your city.
One thing I find unsure is random monsters attacking sisters. In my first game on easy I had no cities lost to wandering monsters but my second game on medium I have lost 4 cities to random monsters. Seems strange. Is it totally random?
I think that on easy monsters will not attack your cities by design. I also believe that the higher the difficulty, the more likely monsters are to attack your cities.
I honestly don't know what I am suppose to do.
This works for me: 1. Snake cities so that travel between them is near instanteneous. 2. Get "Freeze" and "Tremor" as early as possible. 3. Have at least one reaction force that can deal with crap. 4. When a monster army appears, use "Freeze" & "Tremor" to immobilize it until the reaction force gets there. In my current <a href="https://fo
This is great. I just wish the developers would put it in vanilla.
Where are the three heads? I demand three heads!
