Champion Spells and Abilities -- Help PLZ

Sorry for the noob question here, but how to do equip/swap out hero/champion spells and abilities?  I have a couple of instances where this has come into play.

1) My sovereign hero has filled all seven ability slots, but has learned new spells, and I don't know how to replace the old abilities with the new, better spells.

2) When I recruit a found champion and he becomes a spellcaster, I don't know how to equip the new spells that he's learned.

There must be something that I've missed here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Underneath your skills/spells, you have a number of buttons: pass, spells, etc...

Lets say you want to hotkey a spell.

Click on [Spells].  Find the spell you want.  Click on the star to the right of the spell name.  Click on the slot where you want it to go.

I feel stupid typing this, so excuse me if it's obvious.  If you want to hotkey a skill, click on [Skills], and if you want to hotkey an item, click on [Items]

Note that if the spell/skill/item that you're looking at is already hotkey'd, instead of a star, there will be a circle with a number in it.
