GaelicVigil : You seem to be grinding an axe here. I don't know your motivation, but I have seen the method before. I don't think anything anyone has to say about FfH2 will alter your thinking. So this post is for those who have never played FfH2, and may never if they put any stock to your words

No doubt! The Fall From Heaven mod is in my top 3 games of all time list. I think it goes way beyond being a mod. The FfH2 team wouldn't accept donations for their work, so I took them up on their suggestion and made a contribution to charity ( to my local PBS station on their behalf ). The mod/game is so good that I was compelled to support it with money. When I heard the news of FfH3 I had thought that Valve was backing them.&
Again this is an issue with digital downloads in general. It does mean that your potentially at risk if you buy a game online from Steam or Impulse or any other service (personally I choose to take the risk but that's my choice). But it has nothing to do with the use of Steam as a copywrite method for games you own physical copies of which is what you were complainign about originally.
Physical or digital copy

I think it'd be up to the publisher (2k) not the developer (Firaxis). Decision wise.... removing the steamworks stuff might not pose much of a problem, particularly if Stardock::Reactor can replace it. I think it would be the DRM method that holds things up. I get the feeling that 2k may not easilly release thier grip. And I imagine they very much want all that user data which steam provides. If I had to guess, I'd say that 2k would rather ch

Bah! So no go for Civ5. A steam free version requires a change to the DRM method, patch distribution....
But feeling that they are going to suddenly hold all of your games hostage unless they start paying you money seems unrealistic in the extreme. Just one of a number of reasons I dislike the steam approach enough to pass on this latest installment from my all time favorite game title... steam has the ability to deny users access to their games. Denial of game can occur through various software faults on the user and client side. Denial of game can also occur from a policy directive. In the EULA and terms of service agreements, there is nothing preventing steam from denying you access to your ga

And ultimately just as bad, is not finding rubber or oil within reasonable reach. Some of those games were epic fun though. Others were just a pain in the arse. Some were simply a lost cause and reason to roll a new map. Overall, I liked the va

Elements of useful criticism may still be garnered from this thread. But the name calling and hostility probably robbed it of any constructive purpose. Postings like this will likely NOT get the notice of the developers. They have enough to read and do without getting bogged down with these kind of posts. So what then is the point of the venomous sarcastic tones? Reads like troll bait to me. If the difference

FadedC... It has been said that Elementals Quest feature has not been fully realized yet. There is much more potential than what has been realized at this point. I trust the same is also true for Roleplaying and Spellcasting. The game was crafted with these elements in mind. From the get-go, It has been known that the game would not reach full potential at launch. Look for more depth in these areas once the game gets stabilized. From what I h

A HUGE thing I'd like to see come out of the Elemental launch is the showcasing of Stardock::Reactor. As far as I am concerned, the way that Stardock goes about Reactor is FAR superior to the way which Valve goes about Steamworks. Reactors method is friendly and unobtrusive. Steamworks method... not so much. There is much to say about the differences between the two. But I don't debate them here ( theres other threads for that ).

I'd be happy with both; despite historically being a one game gamer. steam is the only thing preventing me from getting Civ5. My finances are currently limited, but I would have fit both games into my budget eventually. More power to those who will play both... just hope that your patronage of a steamworks product doesn't empower a monopolic steamrolling of the gaming industry ;~p

Yes Jafo; and the latest exercise my rights have gotten, was to not purchase Civ5 because I did not agree with steams EULA. Bummer to miss that fun, but it was by choice not force. I get that. I'm talking actual consumer protections here. Some of my concerns with EULA: 1) None of the software I have recently purchased, has a EULA which could not be accessed pre-sale. In my experience, brick and mortar vendors will not refund an open

Unfortunately, due to production realities... the manuals are commited to print months before the game is complete. And in this current gaming climate, games are s

All the games I have currently bought I could sell at will. But if I were to buy Civ5 I would not be able to sell the game. If I was caught selling that game (it is practical for them catch you because of new DRM methods), steam can lock out my account, preventing me from playing ANY of the games I have on their service. I cannot buy Civ5 without also using steam. That's one of a few reasons why I will never have any games on steam. Not because of any value I pla

Titling your post with the word "lie" is not a constructive way to put forth suggestions. 'Inaccuracies' is a neutral way to say the same thing. It may or may not have been your intention to troll, but you've put the troll bait out there. I'd suggest editing the thread title before its closed.

From a hiring standpoint, I have both hired, and suggested for hire, people who had been previously layed off. Quality is as quality does. Sometimes strong talent just has to be let go. I've worked across a small variety of different industries. In some industries, layoffs are more common than in others. And for some, layoffs are just part of the gig. Being layed off does not carry an automatic stigma from my experiance.

Since it's modding vs cannon, how about introducing a new player to the game? Something distinctly different from Kingdoms and Empires. A wicked blood thirsty race. Evil incarnant. A scourge. A viscious, vampric, hive minded foe. Possesing regenerative qualities and utilizing a twisted biological construct in their buildings. Yeah, like the Wraith from Star Gate Alantis (sans the space cruisers and stun guns).&nb

I'd very much like to see the Kumquat engine leased for other games. Top of my list would be a TBS based on the Wheel of Time novels. Yep, it seems that the climate has changed such that reading the EULA prior to purchase may have dramatically increased in importance. If the EULA is unclear, or is unavailable prior to purchase... well it may be best to just bag it. The game Civ5 was a purchase I was assured to make. Upon learning that a third party client was required, I researched into that company including the reading of their EULA. The EULA was ambiguous an
