From the last thing I remember reading.. buying the game before v1.1 was released, qualifies for the 2nd free expansion. I could be mistaken or it could have changed so please don't make a purchase decision based on that. I'd like to get a clarification on this as I frequently spread the Elemental word. I often bring up the 2 free expansions as illustration of Stardocks commitment to its users. Would be nice to get clarification on exactly when the o
But basically I agree with his first post. I play the game, not the book.
I want to play the book! I want total immersion. I want the Chronicles of WhiteElk to be written as I play.

Welcome Toby! I'm liking all those additions you've listed for v1.1. Population as an applied resource is a big win for me! And the citizen based tax economy is huge!! Cities will have life to them. And the 4x TBS balancing problem of city spam, is balanced with variable maintenance costs based on population size. This makes perfect sense to me. The bigger populace a market services, the larger and more costly it must be.

Heh. Happens in the real world to. There is nothing to do about it but to grow thicker skin. If you attempt to pander to one crowd, you lose another. Might as well just be real. It's more fun and less painful. Editing oneself with the intent of achieving popularity cannot go well in the long run. I cut my own hair. Sometimes I cut it short. Other times I keep it long.
My hope on Elemental was that people pre-ordered it not so much to support Stardock (I don't really like the idea of people supporting corporations but that's a personal thing) but rather to demonstrate a confirmed interest in turn-based fantasy strategy games.
I disagree. But I think we may be thinking about two different things. I think it vitally important that people support companies who
Quoting WhiteElk, reply 16 I've yet to read anything of substance explaining why city spamming (building lots of cities) is a bad thing for empire building games. There are numerous threads on late game tedium that discuss city spam and how it can ruin the fun of finishing the competition off. Basically, victory has already been decided and all that remains is a long boring grind t

Annatar11 I think you may be mistaken as to your statement that the majority of the artwork being pirated. You do a disservice to the unit creators who put in hundreds of hours of work in the mod. I'll leave the rest to Kael to set straight. I don't understand your crusade against FfH in this and other threads. But I well remember the years of watching the unit art develop. Hats off to the FfH artists who gave so much of their time for

Congrats Derek! This is great news for Stardock and for fans of Elemental! This news caused me to dance a quick jig. I'm both amazed and relieved. I'd hoped you'd join forces with Stardock to at least a modding degree. But it seemed too good to be true that you might be taking on a greater role here. Wow! I didn't think I could get more excited about the future of Elemental than I already was. I was wrong. <

I got a little broad in my first posting. So I rephrase a bit more concisely... What alternatives do we have to sensationalist journalism as relates to technology? I used to watch TechTV before comcast replaced the network with g4. Some of the old gang has moved to Rev3. Patrick Norton, Roger Chan, Robert Heron... Good stuff.
Umm... I'm not advocating that the amount of cities in Civ V is off the wall or anything. Just that the "must have ___ in each city" wonders, the 3 or 4 of them (and I believe they are also all National Wonders, anyway) are one of the ways to give medium and small empires a way to catch up, to a limited extent, huge empires. Large empires will still way outproduce, probably outscience, and certainly be able to field

Is it tomorrow enough yet ;~p I'd enthusiastically support Kael as new Producer. As far as I am concerned (and from my limited perspective) he has demonstrated the requisite skill set for this particular job. Chief among those skills being of team leadership and project management. As well, he has shown enthusiasm and creative ability within the TBS and Fantasy genres (I find this as important as the rest). He has shown he has the gumption to stick with somethi
The "have a copy of ___ building in every city" is one of the few ways this game punishes city spamming. Increased cost of social policies and the small unhappiness penalties (easily overcome back making each city near a luxury resource).
Why should we be punished for city spamming? I call it empire building. It is one reason why I enjoy games such as this. I understand balance.&n

I see the potential in this game, and it's engine, for epic greatness. And from Stardocks record, I see that they are an outfit willing and able to make it so. So yeah, I do think that early sales help to usher in a new age of strategy gaming. For me, I see Elemental becoming what the Civ series was ++. The Civ series was everything to me. At long last I see a successor to my most favored game of all time

I agree with the release excitement Brad. I enjoy the communal buzz that comes with a new release. That buzz is even greater since the developers are active in the community. I can't stress enough how much I admire and appreciate Stardocks openness and participation within the fan community! I am currently unable to purchase Elemental because I'm still financially recovering from an emergency home repair. But I am still enjoying the communal buz

@ Gazz_ Or I'm the one being naive for preaching to the choir lol. Had just wanted to interject that point of supporting continued development by buying the game now vs later. But your method of directing the perpetually malcontent to wait for a bargain bin purchase, might be the better tactic. Those who are frequently disappointed to the point of public rage, might be better off just waiting. I hadn't meant anything I said to be directed a

Stuff happens. The big difference for me, is that the Stardock devs talk! They keep us informed as to what tweaks, fixes, and updates they are working on. 2k has hushed Firaxis. And once again 2k has left the scene post sale. Bah! Civers don't know if the Longbows pwning Riflemen is going to be tweaked. Or when the crashes will be resolved. They have no clue if they are stuck with the current UI or not. They don't know when or if they'll b

Some good thoughts here. Here's another spurred by others... Black Market. Players ( incl. AI ) can trade any resource for any other. The rates of exchange vary based on global occurance. Abundant resources hold little value vs rare resources. But every exchange between player and Black Market will come as a loss to the player. Patronage with the Black Market allows it to grow evermore powerful ove
