It may not look like a priority, but at the end of the day I tend to realize that I have played 90% of the time on the cloth map, and I have missed out most of the graphics. In fact, while I don't 'have to do that, I instinctively switch to the cloth map because units are faster when movin on it, and more important, because the position of the terrain elements and the notable locations can be more easily understood. Mereover certan woods to me are unrecognizable form high grass when I

IMO Essence was one of the many original things this game concept had that the devs never managed to balance into a functional gameplay. Global mana pool and mana manteinance work great... Not original at all, no intellectual effort to create a system around it AT ALL, since it'sthe system used in Age of Wonders and other games of this kind. Apparently the new politics is not to make the original concepts work, but to drop anything that is unusual to this genre of games, hopefully at
He was responding to your claim that your proposition is clearly correct because no one else has ever done it differently than your suggestion (which isn't a strong argument, btw)
Oh, OK, you are right... But still it becomes quite a strong argument when even after so many patches we got to a point where that is the main issue with the gameplay (my opinion on that one, but when I play games now I stop and start a new one as soon as my heroes become invincible... Which i

...OR I have played Master of Magic (from the day it came out) but I don't think it's perfect, nor that it is particularly smart to talk about it like it had the ultimate gameplay and every other game should try to be like it. Anyway I don't recall being able to autofight anything with heroes, in MOM, being sure of the outcome!!

Heroes should improve armies with unique bonuses instead than fighting like and better than entire armies. Those bonuses should include movement (guides can make armies cross mountains or walk faster in woods, some heroes should grant a forced march bonus to speed, others shoud allow armies to be invisible in woods or have special defense bonuses againsta specific kinds of weapons...) A hero should not be able to defeat an entire army alone EVER. I have never seen that in any other 'w
Kingdom's vs Empire is definitly key. In fact that is also something we want to put more focus on (I don't like that you start at the same attitude when you meet Empires as Kingdom as you do when you meet another Kingdom, etc). But I don't want the theme to be a dicotomy, so for me it isn't as simple as Nature vs Magic or Empires vs Kingdoms. For me its about ruined beauty. I want the Empires to flawed, I wa

All that is true but complexity needs a lot of work in terms of balance and so far Stardock has been unable to do that with Elemental. In fact complexity is not a solution either and there is such a thing as over complex games. Take Age of Wonders Shadow Magic, that game is incredibly complex but those 12 races are incredibly well balanced (some of them are still a bit better than others, but the gameplay allows a certain number of ways to work around that).

I have been playing a 1.1 game that seems to go on forever (not much time to play), do you guys have still the uberhero problem in later versions? Meaning you pump up a bunch of heroes to the point you can just autofight any huge army thrown at you? If ubeheroes are still in the game I don't see any problem with monsters (also I don't se any fun with the game but that's another story).
8 The combat system is very different with damage types, resistance types, etc. Its user interface will be new.
Actually point 8 is interesting. Also from the video I kind of guess that if you have one of those flame swords with a specific kind of unit you won't be able to cut through a specific kind of armor... Makes sense to me. Maybe finally it won't be possible anymore to make a uberhero that by turn 150 is able to conquer an entire

A new turn begins. Player gets the notification that a hero is being attacked. Player clicks on it thinking is going to deal with the attack instad another notification appears, this one says the capital is being attacked. Player clicks on it worried about the capital, but the battle doesn't start, instead another notification appears saying a research has been completed... No way to pick a new thing to research, instead another notification appears saying that a spell has been reearched...</
But at the same time, it can't be all things to all people. That was one of the problems with WOM. When you try to be all things to all people you end up dispapointing everyone.
Actually I don't think it tried to be everything for all people. In order to be that It should have had a map made of hexes (to be a wargame) instead than semplyfing things with tiles and then just say it was because "Brad doesn't like hexes", then it should have had a city simula

The portrait issue is the most annoying thing I have ever seen in a game since I started playing this kind of games. Everytime the devs say they fixed it and it's BS! Units get portraits from other units randomly during the game , fix it once for all Jesus Christ!!!!!! <span s
Thanks all. Well, at least I'm getting kids from one of her sons! The funny thing is I got her husband killed on purpose so she could re-marry, and then forgot to propose with someone else ... by the time I remembered to try this, it was too far down the track to bother reloading. Oh well !! I will know for next time. Overall, the dynasty concept is nice. If it was more realistic, it would be less fun. Imagine charac

You should make them! If you are lazy or don't have time, make them with the random map generator.

The game as it is now must be really boring in MP," click click click :end of turn, end of turn, end of turn" and nothing happense for hours. Units should be much faster and maps sould be full of things to do instead than the same quasts over and over... From my experience this kind of games play better by email (try PBEM in Age of Wonders Shadow Magic, as I mentioned a few times already this game wold be grat like that), I certainly would't have fun sitting in a room with a f

The whole dynasty concept should be completely rethought (like most other things in this game). As a rule of the thumb if something is not realistic the person who suggested it should be covered in tar and feathers and then fired. Sovreigns should re marry, their children should inherit their title and cities should not disappear (!!!) after a sovreign dies! (Cities disappearing!! You really get the immersive realistic experience when the game follows absurd rules! HAHAHAHA! Someone s

It's not the look that is going to make the game better. Have it do something! Introduce a 'scout' talent that makes certain units faster in woods, a mountaneer talet that allows to cross mountains, add a 'stealth' talent that allows groups of units to be invisible in woods... The latest will be especially useful in mulyiplayer games! Also I have always hated those woods that are only recognizable as such when you look at them in the tablecloth map, while in the regular map just seem
Well the fact that you have to auto combat other people kinda kills it for me.
It's not too bad a limitation actually, since you do lots of battles against the AI. Also there are lots of strategic choiches you have to make against the other players that go well beyond which dwarf attacks which smurf .You should try it before you judge it.

While E:WoM has come a long way since it's release, it's still not near other Stardock games in quality.
Funny actually I would say it's much higher quality than the usual Stardock game.
I still don't see how PBEM casn be fun. But the more option the better. Personally I perfer to play AOW:SM live. Well Ewom is not going to be the game we want and the Devs know it. Which is why they are coming out with FE. So until then AOW:SM and GalCiv2 will have to hold us over.
You should really try to play by email. Of course I was skeptical as well when I first tried it, I was annoyed by the fact that you can only auto fight other human players, but eventually we

I just recently learned about a game called "Battle for Wesnoth". It is a freeware wargame, and to be quite honest as a fantasy wargame is just amazing. The graphic is just 'cute', but it is extremely deep in terms of strategy and gaameplay. Also the combat system is quite original because it doesn't give the typical three values offensive-defensive-movement that wargames usually implement. Instead each kind of units has a fixed damage value that it inflicts upon a succesful attack, which is
To say that AoWSM has no bugs is fairly amusing to me. Play a game where you start with no cities and only pioneers, wait that is just silly since the AI won't build more pioneers. Now, as Frogboy has pointed out so frequently due to its true, AoW:SM had 2 previous iterations to balance spells and units ( though it was still fairly unbalanced in SM ), to clean up the UI, and to rework city management.
Can you mentio
Hey, maybe you are right but the fact is the gameplay of EWOM just doesn't f****** work, they may as well follow my suggestions since they in inspired by games that do work, I give the reference, I give numbers, then they do what they want. I am a bit tired of repeating myself about movement and PBEM multiplayer, in the end if the game doesn't work, I'll be very sorry but that won't change my life, I'll just go back to AOW. If you ha
