There's a few reasons: 1. Stardock's earned a reputation over the years for supporting games and making them good over the long haul. People think that can happen again because it's happened before. It's a loyal fanbase. Some of them feel betrayed, which makes them very passionate. (And the still loyal ones are equally passionate.) 2. How many games in this genre do you actually see these days? The only one in years is Elemental, and a Civ 4 mod. Fans of the genre want it to s
There was ONE big problem with the BETA. At no point, ever, in the beta was there a GAMEPLAY beta. Never, ever. I was absolutely astounded at the ability of other players to make comments on stuff like what should go in city building when it was, actually, totally irrelevant to winning the game. I don't think I ever cast a single spell in the whole beta because there was no point to it. I just went to build a melee sovereign
That really depends. Defense scales with DEX, and if it has a minimum roll which also scales with DEX, it will be able to keep up with weapon advances on squads as long as there's a defense roll for each attack roll. Basically, due to the stat bonus the Champion/Sovereign has a much higher armor than a mundane unit, and with better rolls (like 20-40 instead of 0-40) rolling against each attack from a member of a squad the single champi
I don't really agree with this. Most mechanics are solid, just need a good balance and scaling pass. All the games you listed are purely subjective, too. I played AoW:SM, but I don't really think it's essential for Elemental to model anything from it. I played FFH2, and don't particularly think anything needs to be in Elemental from it, either. It's entirely possible to tweak Elemental's tactical battles to work with the current stat system
I wonder though, what remedy? Is the game really 'fixable' (well ultimately it is) by patches? Or is a 'recall' more along the lines of what you are thinking. Clearly it's not a 'recall' in the traditional sense of 'send back your baby formula', but in the sense that the product was clearly not what it 'needed' (by your definition, not mine) to be. I'm on the side that thinks the game play mechanics are utter

Just wondering can he ever learn spells or is the main character the only one who can ever cast spells and has mana. thx
Yep. Your sovereign has an "Imbue" spell. You can use that on the overland map to target the hero you want to have spells. That transfers 3 essence to the target and turns them into a spellcaster. (At level up yo

To be fair, we don't actually know *why* August was chosen. I'm a regular around here, and I don't even know *when* August was chosen, let alone why. It's one thing if someone sat around in July and said "hey lets release next month!" It's quite another if that decision was made back in January when it looked like August was a doable schedule. And I don't know what you want out of them, honestly. BoogieBac has been nothing but straightforward about the issues and what they're do

From release, presumably. "Content" is going to be in the form of patches that add stuff as part of the patch, not an extra DLC pack that some will get free access to and others won't. The paid expansions will be an add-on thing.

It's interesting to compare the message in this thread with someone saying the exact opposite around the same posting time . I'll admit, I'm pretty baffled by your comments. Would the Reductio ad absurdum version be that they should release it the instant they have something that compiles? :P People who wanted access to the game (ie: people who like the game in your breakdown) already had it. It was called b

The bar at the top middle *should* be the totals, except for food (since you can't stockpile food). If you're seeing per turn instead, something very odd is going on.

IIRC there's supposed to be more campaign coming in one of the planned content updates, that would be free content. I don't know what the exact plans are yet for that stuff, but there's no point where you'll have to pay for a patch to the game once you buy the game.

It's just a poor choice of wording. What they were trying to say (and I've seen another thread on the same question confirm it) is what Annatar said. They'll be patching the game for at least a year. There's no extra charge for those patches. It sounds like there will be a couple of free content patches (ie: more campaign) as well before a paid expansion, but that doesn't affect the bug fix patch cycle.

Probably get a faster response in the general forum then the multiplayer one, but last news was that it'll be today sometime. (Note that "today" has around 15 hours left in it in SD's timezone.)

I don't like the idea of the game I buy being outdated and in dire need of multiple patches on day 1....kind of defeats the purpose of having a disk at all. And only became marginally better because of fan patches later. So spare us the hater bullshit that Stardock is somehow getting cut a break. Oh really? I played MoO3 retail version, w/out any patches, and it worked. And MoO3 has muuuuuch more content and gameplay depth than Elemental. Maybe, someday, if Brad does not back out
