The differences between a permanent shop ingame and a one time preorder bonus are obvious enough, I'd had hoped.
Yep, the collectors editions are usually a lot more expensive then anything in the store. And pre-order bonuses are even worse. Content that you can only get by shopping at a specific store? It's a joke.
Because that's not true? Give me some proof, that before ther
That is my exact complaint. It's a sad money grab and not respectable, in any form, from any business. You can get X achievement to get the XX special item, or pay $1.99 and get it now, but for just $1.99 more you could get item YY!!!!!!! I'm not sure I'll ever understand the insurmountable idiocy of someone willing to spend money on DLC like this, or be able to support a company that shovels it out. <br /
But it has some new multiplayer elements. And day 1 DLC. Looks like I won't be spending a dime on this after all. I miss the Valve that brought us Half Life. Now we have poke-hat collect them all, and micro transaction for the infantile minded valve.
The "day 1 DLC" is cosmetic. It's for if you want a pink robot wearing a funny hat in co-op. That's it. There is zero content DLC. The complaint
Valve is pretty well known for having big sales on their own titles during summer and Christmas. It is a very safe bet you will get Portal 2 for a major discount if you hold off a few months. Big Impulse sales are more random, and they don't tend to have the deep discounts Steam does. If you want to buy Portal 2 on day 1, by all means go ahead. I'm not sure why you're comparing the buying incentive o
I'd give you 100% odds that SD would send you a CD with all of the patches if you request it via [email protected]. They've offered this on other titles in the past. It's also quite possible they'd do so at no cost. Best of luck.
If it still needs to be activated it wouldn't solve the problem. Besides, did they ever actually do that? Brad said they would for Elemental back when
Seems like a suckers bet to buy any Valve game at day 1. Not because the game will be bad, I imagine it will be pretty fun, but because it will probably be on sale for 25-50% this summer and 75% off during Christmas. It's a single player game, so there's really no rush to own to day 1 IMO.
You could apply that line of reasoning to almost any game, including Sins (where you happen to be posting).

Wound up picking it up on D2D since it's on sale there too. Looks like they've made a LOT of improvements since I looked at it months ago.

Days of efforts to push the release a few hours earlier?
Maybe instead of complaining, people should just ignore it. That you can do something to speed up the release doesn't mean you need to. If gamers weren't so similar to crack addicted morons in need of a constant fix, this would be a very different indu
Steam is very meh. PITA to use compared to most programs. Valve 'Support' however is godawful. As for Portal II, probably will end up with it on XBox eventually to play multiplayer. Sounds o much more fun than the original.
Consdiering how little Valve thinks of the 360 now, that's the one version I'd avoid like the plague.

The plan is for it to still be availible for those that purchased it, it will just be that no more people can buy it. However, it remains to be seen how that works out.
Yeah I know that's the plan, but I don't really trust it. If they were keeping it for

All versions need patching. The ultimate edition would be patched to Twilight of the Arnor release, which is a lot closer to the current version the Gold Edition (which was released sometime around Dark Avatar). GC2 is well behaved about only requiring the Internet to activate & patch. It's not like an Ubisoft game where you can't play it online.

Yes. Only question is where I'm getting it from. If a friend of mine is making a visit to Maine, I intend to order the PS3 version from Amazon (I know people with mailboxes in Houlton just for cross-border shopping). That nets you the PC version included, AND Amazon is giving a $20 credit to your account. On top of that the very strong Canadian dollar nets savings. It's so crazy that buying it in Canada is nearly double the price. If that Maine trip doesn't happen I'll

Star Ruler is also on sale right now, which is kind of strange. I was pretty tempted to buy it at it's sale price but the uncertainty over when it's going to vanish changed my mind. Maybe it'll go on sale on Steam.

The point of Impulse Anywhere is for offline installation of games that you own on Impulse. Stuff downloaded that way shouldn't require online validation (since it would rather defeat the point of an offline installer), but it does require an Impulse installation in order to do the install. So yes, you should be clear of Gamestop as long as you use that version. The box version (I did find a boxed copy of the Ultimate edition at Amazon for $60) likely isn't patched up. The ult
I think it's a good enough deal and was ready to make it. I'd like to get a boxed version directly from Stardock before gamestop takes over Impulse. But a box version of the combo pack is not listed for sale. It would cost me $50 to get box copies of all versions. That feels like $10-15 too much. I'm sure I can find it cheaper elsewhere. But I am motivated to purchase directly from the developer. &nb
