Downloading. Can't wait to see the improvements. I might have to put down GalCiv II for a bit to play EWOM again. [e digicons][/e]
**I'm gonna go play me some GalCiv2**
You and me both. [e digicons][/e] I think the most exciting thing about Elemental are the possibilities it opens for GalCiv III (sorry, I'll always be a sci-fi guy at heart [e digicons]:borg:[/e] ).
Get Distant Worlds instead. By far the best 4X game at the moment.
I agree. I jumped on the DW bandwagon last week and I am really enjoying the game. It has a steep learning curve, but its approach to the 4X genre is commendably innovative. I really can't wait for the first expansion (supposedly by Christmas). There is a good thread about it here .
I reviewed the game back in 2008. It is fun but I thought it needed some depth. For $3.99. you can't go wrong.
It is great (and that goes for the pre-4.0 version)! I wrote a review of it here . I haven't had a chance to try 4.0 yet. [e digicons]:'([/e]
Looks like we got our first title! Artemis Bridge Simulator Here's a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnZszGvpTrQ&feature=player_embedded I really like the potential here! Of course, I won't be happy until there is a single player mode (with PvP over the internet), but it certainly is a step in the right direction! &n
Everybody has pretty much covered my feelings, so I will just add that I really like the cloth map. But I would like to have the ability to write on it, such as naming a forest or a range of mountains. IIRC, this was mentioned in one of the early dev blogs but I guess it never made it into Elemental Vanilla.
I actually think the space sim market might be poised for a comeback. I think EvE gets a lot of credit for this - in a market where many a MMO fails, CCP has succeeded wildly with a hardcore space sim. I think this fact has opened a lot of eyes. Hence, Black Prophecy. It's too early to tell if it will succeed or flop, but its existence is encouraging on its own. Then there is Jumpgate Evolution - while it has dropped into a black hole for the moment, it still in
Metro 2033 is definitely a game I will be picking up when it is on one of those Steam sales. I never entertained paying full price, though, as it reminded me of a stripped-down Stalker. Its been out a while now. You should be able to get it for a good price.
Yeah, no autopilot changes, just new content. I am really eager to see what Egosoft comes up with for their new series. The X franchise was on the cusp of greatness (it was only held back by some UI flaws and quirky game design decisions, such as no quick save). The next franchise could be epic!
Aghh! Everytime I renew my EvE subscription, Egosoft releases some massive new update to X3 to steal my attention! This happens all the time ; it can't be a coincidence. They're watching me.... [e digicons]:cylon:[/e] Anyhoo.... Update 3.0 for X3: Terran Conflict The "superbox" has also been released. Got to admire Egosoft. The game
Good post. I completely agree with 2 & 3, and I am coming around to your position on 1. But for me, 2 & 3 need the most attention. The world does not feel like the "medieval simulator" I was hoping Elemental was going to be. In addition to what you mention, I also want to see dynasties get some love (this is what I've been hammering on [e digicons]^_^[/e] ) as the inability of children to inherit the throne pretty much rendered moot the entire dynastic
Instead of dying, the heroes should be captured, and held for ransom, either by the monsters or by an enemy state, like in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Put them in jail, maybe they can escape on their own, maybe if they have Thief ability, they have an increased chance to escape. The prisoner could be traded on the diplomacy screen.
Yes! This is something I've been thinking about, too. It would help make heroes much more in
Thanks for the feedback. It looks like the community is still playing it, which is the best indicator of a good game. Think I'll check it out! Thanks!
So...the game's been out for a few months now. Has anybody reached a definitive conclusion? [e digicons]^_^[/e] I have been on the fence with this game since its release...and still am (I really wish there was a demo. It is soooo important with a 4X sci-fi game). Has the game improved since the first few patches? Would people still recommend it? Or was it just a flash in the pan? The reason I ask is because I've been playing a lot of AI War and I
Great ideas! More than a few people have been arguing for changes like yours for a while now. As currently implemented, children and dynastic politics are largely pointless. At a minimum, Elemental's dynastic politics should equal 2006's Medieval II: Total War dynastic system, which it currently does not, unfortunately. I'm hopeful that it will at some point, though. [e digicons]:pout:[/e]
Chess! The only game that never disappoints me. It was, after all, beta-tested for over 1300 years before it was released! [e digicons][/e]
Speaking about sov children in a captured city, it would be cool if we could capture them and ransom 'em off. Maybe even after a battle (i.e., not everyone dies in a lost battle; some are merely wounded and can be captured).
Good stuff! I particularly agree with the schools of magic and the succession wars (which is #1 on my most wanted list as you really can't have a medieval game without such a thing as dynastic struggles. If Medieval:TW could get it to work, SD certainly can!). [e digicons][/e]
RE: DEAD SOVEREIGN SUCCESSION Have some kind of reversed Golden Age, the whole kingdom mourning for their lost (Beloved?) And Definitely hand over the reigns to the next in line (Taking into account all diplomatic possibilities! Family feud & and a kingdom split in half? ! ) Yes, exactly! If you were a
I'm all for it! Anything to make this crucial element of medieval politics come alive in the game!

I would wait. While the game is playable, and even enjoyable for short periods, it definitely needs a lot more "fleshing out" to make it all it can be. I would wait at least until version 1.1 gets here in September.
