I would really like to see these "spell ranks" be part of their genetic code. For your sovereign, of course, you could make picks at channeler reation, but then I would love to see the possibility of the strengths in the different schools be passed on genetically thru the dynasty part of the game.

A channeller with the "impotent" trait should get "alchemical potion d'viagra" in their research tree. [e digicons]^_^[/e]
I will say this about Sid and his "10 rules" - The rules themselves may be correct, probably are, but in my not so humble opinion, Sid Meyer, Peter Molyneaux, and Will Wright, all made some absolutely amazing games. Then they started realizing how great they were and started writing "the 10 commandments of game design" or in other ways became addicted to self-admiration, and frankly, their game design and creativity went right in the toilet. It was like instead of jsut doing w
I think MoM2 (not under that name) will be done as a mod on EWOM. We'll see.
If anyone has not played Master of Magic you can get DosBox at www.dosbox.com and I think you can get MoM from abandonware sites - that's not piracy, right? Because I am certainly not intending to advocate anything illegal, and I personally still have my original boxed Master of Magic game. Here is one site that you can download Master of Magic from http://www.abandonia.com
My biggest hope, and I think you all share it, is not that EWOM is MoM 2.0, but I just hope it captures that magic of "1 more turn", and then at 2 in the morning "I'm just going to start another game ".. I am feeling pretty hopeful at this point, but it is going to be really hard to determine if it has that LifeSuck 3000 quality until we see a lot more of the pieces working together. I'm guessing it will be April or May before we start to see enough of the totality to figu
Hear hear GW! If I really let myself go nuts I would love to see the abililty to implement complete government types - not talking abstracted "bonus this or negative that" but say in EWOM it would be cool to be able to groom your offspring to be somewhat independent minded city/state rulers - obedient to you but yet with their own personalities that they would try to accomplish what you want but THEIR way. It would be great if you could in one game set up an hei
Heh I already made the argument long ago for a Bene Gesserit breeding program. Of course if it was as detailed as i would like it would totally overwhelm the rest of the game. but it is definitely a fun idea. Yes to finneglot, IRL you do need to have a large number of crossbreedings to determine which traits dominate etc., but for game purposes it would not be hard to lay down some simple genetic rules of the probability of passing a given trait on and also for game puposes you could
[quote who="Finneglot" reply="7" id="2468475"]Interesting, yet this fails in one important point: general governance. Your channeler is the king/emperor, therefore he must have general administrative/diplomatic/military skills showing how good he is at managing three important aspects of his nation. Again, I'm ripping Europa Universalis III off, but I think its star system can be used as a base for Elemental. Each star can add general bonuses related-to-area to your nation. Adminis
FrogBoy, a suggestion; Rather than default all starting attributes to 10, I propose starting attirbutes (before you distribute bonus points) be a standard member of your tribe. For example, you give your tribe the faction adjustments you want (or create your own custom faction). In those choices maybe you give your race as a whole a +1 to intelligence and a -1 to strength (and lots of other things, this is just a simple example). Then when you go to your channeler cust
I would like to see succession based on respect, which should differ from diplomacy. For instance, maybe a fellow sovereign wants you to do something, maybe even a bit underhanded. You say No. This could give you a hit on diplomacy, but yet raise his respect for you. Ore depending on the personality of the sovereing maybe it just pisses him off. And I could see marrying kids between families raising the respect AND diplomacy between the two. (Hey, it's a fantasy game, right? [e digicons]^_^[/
The cool thing is since this is being designed first as a single player game, there CAN be some unbalancing choices or combinations of choices. Part of the magic, I think, is playing enough to figure out some of those combos and how they can be combined into some overpowering and game unbalancing traits. The worst thing about many of this type of game that is designed multiplayer is there is such a hue and cry that everything has to be balanced, that it only ends up making all choices
I think yoyu could bring over analogs of almost any of the MoM options and wouldn't be too far off. (maybe with some tweaks. For instance, in EWOM Warlord might give combat bonuses to any armies fighting with the channeler. Alchemy might be able to convert vast amounts of gold into either mana or (gasp) essence. Or maybe the ability to convert one mana type into another.... Weaponsmith. Any twon that the channeler was in, weapons produced there are exceptionally good.
Didn't Ultima VII have a system also where you were presented with a series of ethical choices that you had to make throughout your young life, they were either/or scenarios and the sum of your choices determined which virtue(s) were naturally strongest in your character? I'd like a bit of that, although I am much more interested in having a career in younger life that will bring certain talents to the game.
+/- resistance to each damage type added ability with a given element (raise/lower mana cost in certain elements, or spells mroe effective) Higher/lower liklihood of getting random techs (filling the tech tree) Higher/lower liklihood of getting a "red" or "yellow" tech after getting a research rank Higher/lower chance of getting a freebie "grey" tech (if grey techs are still planned) Maybe some of these would be more appropriate racial/faction adjustmen
Yes Wintersongt great post. Spells can be organized into element schools but that does not necessarily mean they do a certain damage type. For instance many earht spells would do physical damage, but there might be a water spell "Ice bolt" that also does physical damage. or a spell bllizzard that does cold damage. or there could be utility spells that do not do damage but have other types of effects.
Could go with "void" as the fifth element type. That's the fifth element in the orient (some areas have "metal" as the fifth element).
I concur Raven X, other than I would say flood is definitely water based and rain more water than air too imho (or perhaps a hybrid if there is such a thing.)
I like the direction. I really like the idea of the kits to enhance weapons or defenses. It will be VERY nice if these can be equipped by experienced units rather than creating units specifically to have the certain attack type/defense. I could see it working either way though, it is all going to depend on implementation. I agree that the mystical magic type needs renamed, but I also agree that is probably a quibble at this point, as long as it is designed to work well gameply wise we
First, hooray, the game is finally stable enough I can sometime play for 75-100 turns without CTD! Very nice! However, turns were still really sluggish, selcting cities and units was painful click click click ah finally got it! I decided to check out the new research features, and was really looking forward to things greying out. Right now it appears that techs do not change colors at all. At research level 6, the items that were green at level 1 were still green, the items that were
I thought the special edition was going to get a copy of Frogboy's Elemental novel...or maybe that was just a wish I don't remember.
banned for karma envy
...tap, tap. Been pretty quiet on the forums lately. Dev journal is getting all cobwebby and stuff. [e digicons]:-"[/e]
I like the general idea a lot, but I woould like it even more if the requirements were somewhat randomized from game to game. Otherwise it just become another checklist every game to do to gain the tech you want.
Thank heavens you came along! I was getting tired of all the stupid, derivative ideas that everyone else was having. [e digicons]:|[/e]
