I'd like to address the issue of "green" techs getting prohibitively expensive due to doing a lot of research in one area. If you focus on warfare, warfare warfare, the cost of doing so is that you are not advancing in other areas. This may be a "realism vs fun" issue, but seriously if a faction focused on just warfare, wouldn't they start to get really good at developing warfare tech and thus push research costs down? And I realize this is all still up for a LOT of tweaking.

One question - after reseaching to Warfare III (30 pts), if I switch to Civilization I does it cost 10 pts or 40?
Warfare III is 40 points, not 30 (per the OP) so it appears that each level is double the previous. (10,20,40,80(?))

The research screem looks good, the description of how research is going to work looks to be a HUGE improvement! I really like the direction and the ability to direct research but not be sure what your are going to get (or you CAN be sure by going with a green. Very very promising, Bravo Zulu, Great Job!

It provided great single and multi player gameplay. It also came with a map editer.
Yep. Perfect General 2 was awesome.

Exploring will enhance your exploration stat. Going to war will .. yep you guess it ... raise your
I really don't like the idea of taking away the players ability to select research. I know there's some realism but playing a game like this is about selecting your own path not having it selected for you. Selecting the research paths you take is surely no less realistic then selecting your culture or the traits you (the sovereign) were born with. Idea for research Have general areas of research. You only indicate which general area you want to research, not specific techs: Examples: population growth, weaponry, armor, special resources, resource harvesting etc. I realize this is not much different than the current system - bear with me) If you choose weapons, you will randomly research one of the basic weapons types: clubs, spears, swords, and bows. The reasons for going with rand

The UI for the current system doesn't lend itself to rapid branching and as a result ends up being quite linear.
I'd say that sums it up for me. The tech trees don't make sense, it just seems like some things were placed furth

I haven't been a huge fan of the mundane tech tree and how it is presented, but it is also far down on my list of things that I care about in the game. Magic research I hope is done completely differently and I care a lot more about it. The economy, the "family tree", any number of other things matter more to me. I think the current mundane tech is adequate and workable, but it definitely does not add to the fun factor.

I don't think anything is set in stone yet - that's why the long beta, remember? However, the fact that Frogboy said that he found dealing with resource storage and discrete units "unfun" I think does not bode well - I know if I were making a game I sure wouldn't do something I found unfun no matter how many people wanted it.

Hannibal's collapsing line should be all that needs to be said about the importance of formations. (In real life). There are no tactics to tactical combat really, without them. You might as well hit auto resolve and let the numbers crunch.

Frogboy said to think Magic:Total War in terms of SCALE of battles. A lot of people concluded that means combat is going to be like Total War, and I haven't seen anything to justify that leap of logic. Everything I have heard is that combat will play out more like X-COM than anything else, I think it is going to be much more like MoM than it is like Total War. I think it is oging to be on a grid, which right there should put a lot of your "Real Tme" concerns to rest.

No, moo3 without space lanes would still have been a piece of shit, just without space lanes. I remember during beta (which I was not in) how they kept saying "we are going to make it it's own game". And boy, did they, they had no business putting the Master of Orion name on that stinker.

This is just a "memory enhancer" for anyone that cares about the survey (NON-SCIENTIFIC!) That I took back during the resource discussion days. Emphasis by bolded. 1. Please respond to how strongly you favor each of the features discussed in Elemental: Internal discussions made external. Higher scores for what you like, medium scores for neutral and low scores

Why not just have a Warehouse or a Silo building that can store a limited amount of each resource? If it takes 10 turns to make one knight, would it take 100 turns to make 10 knights? What if I had enough Iron to make 10 Iron Plate Mail suits all at once? If that's true then it
