Then you simply don't understand what a game engine is.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unreal_Engine_games Tons of these games, for example are nothing like a FPS.. Mortal Combat vs DC Universe..Adventure pinball... Harry Potter... They are like in the sense they show about as many characters. Does any of these show something like hundreds of soldiers, each with its own animations, at the same t

Good to see a dev post from you Boogie! And this sounds like a great thing that even the novice modders could get into! Definitely sounds like this could be a very rich and deep aspect of the game, especially after a few dozen modders get ahold of it!
No build this week...we're getting the Research stuff ironed out (it's CONSIDERABLY more fun and rewarding than the old system) as well as basic code cleanup and economic improvements.
Actually, the code that I did doesn't require the existing border system. All I did was make it so that you have to be at war with the other player before attacking them, and than if you declare war, all of your units get moved out of that player's territory (and all of theirs get moved out of yours). Even if we decide that you can move freely through other people's territory, we'd probably still make it so that you have to declare war and t
Thanks for the video. I just realized something after watching this. Creating 3D models for the units will be hellish hard. I mean how will the equipments [various armors & weapons] fit on the very different creature models? Like if someone creates a creature [..as a basic civ unit], which has 2 heads, 4 arms and a huge body for example? Ah well it is good news that we are getting 1C next, I thought there was going to be another 1B build...a stable 1C next week or hopefully before the long Thanksgiving holiday would sure be nice! [e digicons]:inlove:[/e]

I was wondering if we have hopes for a new build today? And if not, how things are shaping up on the next 1B update?

Maybe you will be able to mouse over the opposing stack and get info cards on the units, you can see their relative strength and how many there are and then you evaluate your chances?
Ratherthan basing it on how many forest squares on in your territory (that could be changing all the time) I think that actually fighting in a forest square would be what triggers a possibility of it showing up in your tech tree - since fighting in a forest is what is going to teach forest defense, not just having one in your territory. Or, fighting in a forest could act as the trigger, but the probability for a forest-

At least if they get to a stable base, then if things start screwing up they will know to look in the new pieces for the problem. As it is, new features get added, but they don't know if it is old code problems or new code problems. And granted, new code can cause problems in the old code, I get that. Thanks all you Stardockians for your hard work. Take plenty of time off and enjoy your upcoming holidays, we'll all be here when you get back. [e digicons][/e]

I prefer that learning how to evaluate what is a strong vs. weak army come from experience of playing the game, not some little advisor popping up to tell you that you are about to get creamed. It's annoying that some people their first response to losing a battle is to reload the game. I guess the soccer moms win the culture wars. Nobody loses.

It would be fun as a better chance to take a peek inside your head, Brad. Sadly, I don't think I could get into a PBEM game, Pen and Paper is only enjoyable for me if I have 4-6 contiguous hours to burn and some good friends to get together with. It sure would be fun for the rest of us if you posted the PBEM game so we could watch the play by play though.
I can't figure out why, exactly, a 'forest defense' tech should be a binary on or off. If it's randomly generated, then everybody can research it, regardless of whether they have any forests in their territory. If it's not, then nobody can get it, not even the guy with lush forests
Hmm haven't read anything to support what you are saying, I think each player's tech tree is separately generated - some things may be included due to your faction, some by random generator l

I like all of Climber's ideas in the above post except for two; I don't like the walled road idea at all. to me both unrealistic and unfun. On workers I am not against so much as I am neutral. Whether there are actual worker units or roads just "get built" without creating a worker, both can be fun, so it doesn't matter to me. However, I do not like the idea that workers can be captured and then continue to build something for the captor that he does not have the tech to be able to build. I d

So to be absolutely clear, when someone does Warfare XI research from the example above, you think it is important or harsher to remove plate mail as an choice? It really seems like that is what you are saying but I have to say that saying that removing plate mail as a choice is somehow a hardcore option - my mind is getting slightly blown here. But you are certainly as welcome as anyone to support whatever ideas you want.

First let me say that if you think that the gray freebies means that eventually you get all techs you flat out do not understand what was proposed - IT DOES NOT, nor would I want it to. Second greys being selectable vs non selectable. I will address this at Climber since he clearly doesn't understand the inherent penalty of CHOOSING a grey tech. Let's use your example that a person has just reached his 10th breakthrough, Reaching that breakthrough (going from 9 to 10) cost 5,120 resea
This research model will give the player considerably more choice and control over the current system, which gives the illusion of choice through a mess of techs and results in passive (boring) payoInteresting. One of the reasons I've refrained from posting on this topic is because there isn't enough information, specifically the ratio of red to orange to green techs. As the thing fleshes out, I'll probably have something to say, but not qu
getting too many grey techs for free though ... would only encourage universal beelining. I think it should be a strategic choice as to how broad or how specific you tech.
I explained above why it doesn't make beelining the only option. For one thing, you have the exponential cost of each succeeding rank within the tech you are in. Also by beelining you are advancing no other areas. So you get +10 adamantium armor, but don't

Agree with pigeonx2 - as i was thinking of it, why would you want to remove a grey tech from being selectable? I think it would be rare for someone to select it as they would be paying a huge research premium to get a relatively obsolete tech. @ valiant turtle I'm not quite clear about the red techs. If you do get one to show up will it always be there, will it just still have it's slim chance to be there again, will it always eventually become yellow, or w
Quoting Frogboy, reply 65 -snip- I would liek to suggest a fourth tech color - grey. And I think that it should be used just as it is used in an MMO (when an opponent is so far beneath you that killing it does not give you experience. My suggestion is that 3 or 4 (or whatever you guys deem appropriate) tech levels beyond when a tech "goes green" that it goes grey. It can still be selected when a breakthrough is m
