Oh I had a question, about the OP Frogboy..... You say the next public beta is Feb 4th - does that mean that will be the next update, or will we have updates betwixt now and then and Feb 4 is the next window for new beta testers? Or is it both, and you are going to include the remaining phase 1 milestones on that day? Thanks![e digicons][/e]

You deserve karma for keeping your discussion reasoned and calm under fairly harsh criticism. Karma to you! [e digicons]k1[/e] And I am not against there being some mechanic that slows people from grabbing tons of land (I think essence is going to do that, and I also think there are other ways that make sense as I posted above) - but I still don;t like the idea of making research easier for small kingdoms.

28 Replies 258,642 Views

There should be disadvantages to larger empires (or kingdoms) but they should be logical ones, not made-up arbitrary BS so that people running smaller empires have an equal shot. I gave the thumbs down etc emoticons because it pisses me off no end when people just come up with these arbitrary ideas to tweak the game in the direction they want. A larger empire is going to have more resources, likely more population, hence more people to roduce, research etc. Arbitrary game rules such a

On the other hand, people who loved Disciples or Space Empires IV might find Elemental too simple.
What is the focus of the game? How much emphasis on each element of gameplay is Stardock aiming for? We have five general categories of gameplay. Strategic (map), Tactical (combat), Empire building (cities), Role Playing (character development), and Adventure (quests/discovery). In my interpretation of "Elemental War of Magic", wizards/mages (and champions/armies) duel constantly over both strategic maps and tactical battle maps.

I like it. Not sure I am such a big fan of the cooperative aspect, but i definitely like the idea of a quest being presented to ALL sovereigns simultaneously and essentially a race to accomplish it.

I agree GW - as I said, i don't think EWOM is a game where different government types is a plus. Different governing STYLES, certainly. But it's a dictatorship, benevolent or otherwise.

19 Replies 14,093 Views

The problem with different government types in games is rather than exploring how different government types actually function, you really get the developer's opinions of the different government types (they don't simulate; i.e. you could not tinker in such a game and come up with an ideal "real world" system of government.) So all you really end up with is the developer's selling you on how THEY feel about various types of government. All that being said, I love games in general that

A possible trigger could be that another sovereign could offer you a quest via the diplomacy screen. Rewards could be of all types including the following; A possible reward could be improved relations with another kingdom (this could be a reward for quests not necessarily initiated in the diplomacy screen). Participation: a party, which could be defined numerous ways (two or more heroes, a hero and a stack to include no more than 10 others, etc) Trying to enter a tile that wa

I agree with you - if this could be implemented right, that would be awesome! I think a problem is that in a "game" the temptation is high to stiff the beneficiary...if there was some kind of mechanic that tracked your "indebtedness" and then if you did stiff the AI (or if it stiffed you) that it would have serious diplomatic effects with ALL other factions - something like "I saw how you treated player X after they supported you in the last war, and we prefer not to deal with you at this tim

Elemental focus items as rewards could be very cool! i.e. there could be quests that give a single item as a reward that make you more effective with a certain class of spells. (Think ter'angreal in Wheel of Time) and there could also be multiple questline quests where you find pieces of a focus item and eventually get them recombined to be a more powerful focus item - maybe something that makes every earth spell you cast more powerful. Quests to gain spells )especially if there are a

I upgraded directly from vanilla GalCiv2 all the way to TOTA - all I can say is that normal difficulty was a breeze in the origina;, and provides good solid competition in TOTA. And the great thing was it wasn't due to any cheats, the AI did indeed get TONS better about evaluating what you were trying to accomplish andthrowing a monkey wrench into things. It was literally night and day. I expect if Froggy takes advantage of multiplayer (and I am sure on games they host they will be ab

One problem the devs may be struggliong with (I know I am) is how to implement different resistances. I mean fire and codl resists I think we all get - but how do you implement earth resists? What kind of damage would earth spells do? How about air ( you could have an electrical damage type I guess) and I think this may be where some people were getting hung up, because at the end of the day, whatever damage is just done to the hit point pool, rather the hit points go away due to

I still hope and expect to see damage spells in every sphere. Of course some elements will be very strong in a high variety of dmage spells but maybe less utililty spells, another sphere May only have a few direct damage spells but may have lots of buffs, damage over time, etc. I should not say "of course", because really nothing is a given at this point but I think it would be terrible to have all damage spells concentrated in one school. I also hope and it sounds like different scho
I'm also hoping there is a way to control shards without having to build a city next to each one. The gathering of shards would create more city spam just to cast good spells. Also essence would be spent to gather each shard, with may actually be a good balance, but maybe we can spend say 2 essence to create an outpost that controls the shard vs. 5 and a city. @Tormy, Hmm I wonder what you read that gave you the idea that one side would require more shards to cast high tier spells than another side, or if that is just an idea that you are throwing out there. I see what you are trying to accomplish and I kind of like the idea, but I am wondering how the 'gamemaster' determines why one side it would take less shards than another side? It's an intriguing idea, mind you, just wondering how it might be implemented...in a non exploitable way.

64 Replies 138,780 Views

It would also be cool if control of a shard is something that you can trade for...and also if you can negate or force renegotiation for said control. NM, with NO SARCASM I can see that could get too complicated.
Spells will require control of shards to cast. Which types of shards and how many of them depend on the spell. What we decided not to do is make it so that one sits there and builds up "fire mana" through the course of the game since that basically makes the outcome pre-determined. Seriously, some people need to cool off a bit and wait and see.
I'm very cooled off and very patient atm. Sorry for the disru
