As the "Keeper of the Survey" I can attest that the magic system is highly anticipated to say the LEAST. Very good news I am extremely psyched to see the magic system![e digicons][/e]
And when I checked this morning I only had 60 participants. Typically I would have hit the threshold by now, so maybe this was a particularly shitty survey. [e digicons][/e]
Well frankly with the amount of KARMA I have been getting lately from surveys (hint: ZERO) I haven't felt really motivated to do much as far as coming up with really cool questions and lots of possible answers. [e digicons];P[/e] Yes, I am a complete karma whore. [e digicons]|-)[/e]
Thanks for a peek into the magic system! I love tidbits like this!
The survey, through no fault of your own, would not allow me to choose N/A for more than of of the games selestion question. I wanted to answer N/A for three of the six, so I ranked 1, 2, 3 for the ones that I wanted to rank and 5, 6, N/A for the others. Thanks for doing this.
Bah, that is because it is a "forced rank" question and only allows one of each available response. I would have expected the N/A
It's been a few months since I ran a survey. I am not a paying surveymonkey customer, so it will only take the first 100 responses. First come, first served! I will post the results when the 100 threshhold is broken OR Saturday at 10:00 a.m. PST whichever is first. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PJ826XV
Well it is going to be a civilization builder, with magic. If you have played Master of Magic or Age of Wonders then that is probably a good place to start. I also hope it is going to have a little bit of Warlords flavor, and although I have not played Dominions 3 enough to judge, I hear a lot of people here talk about it as well. I see the main objectives being pretty much the same as most turn based strategies - Explore, Expand, and Exterminate. you'll be researching both magic and

I know personalized heraldry and so forth has been discussed before, and I think it is expected to be in. I was just thinking in MoM how each of your settlements had the little colored flag to show who owned it, and maybe for the 2d map view just going with a color is the best way to go. However, when you zoom into 3d map view on a town, it would be cool to see your personally created flag waving in the wind. It would be really cool if we could just import a 80 x 100 (or whatever size works b
I have no idea of the exact specs, maybe a dev will answer, but I would guess any level of computer that is still in use in the U.S. in decent numbers. Go to Newegg.com and look at the lowest components available at any price, and that would probably be a good idea. My guess would be 1 gig of RAM, 128 Meg video card, I have no idea what is considered a low end CPU, I am sure single processor CPUs are still in use... this is just me spitballing, I know nothing.
I hope that epic spells such as volcanoes are uncommon to rare. If in the late game it is just people hurling massive "Populous-type" spells at each other, I think that is going to cheapen those mega spells. Something like raising a volcoano I think should be both devastating to the recipient, and should represent the culmination of major spell casting and research on the caster's part. I do hope that there are amazing and still powerful spells that can be cast on a more regular basis, but I
OK, it all sounds great except for the last paragraph. there are parts that don't concern me at all such as multiplayer, but everything else sounds wonderful. I am sorry to see the resource stockpiling is definitely out, I was still holding out hope that down the road that would be open to discussion. I won't rehash the reasons why I don't like the resource handling as it is; there is still so much about this game to love. If anyone knows of a good civ-type game (fantasy setti
Quoting Denryu, reply 18 Similar bonuses in other techs could be based on how many smithies/farmers/other that you have. I realize this is not precisely what the OP had in mind, but it seems like a simple way to gain some of that "flavor" without completely scrapping the current system. Instead of "population" generating research, have the people in each field generate research in their applicable field. Thus
I really like the ideas of the OP and following discussion. I think I may have an idea that may address some of them although probably not to the extent that GW would like - maybe this BASIC idea is something that can be built upon? My very basic idea is to leave the general research system as is, but give bonuses to research based on your population and what they are doing. For instance, if you are doing research in military, part of the equation would be how good you are at research
Hortz, you crack me up sometimes. I'd swear that you not only do not care, but that you are consciously trying to get banned.

I started out thinking no orcs, trolls, etc ala MoM would really hamper this game. But I am seeing if there is not just bonuses but unique research and significant differences then the factions could cover everything important.
In regards to the economy, I am with you guys. I agree that difficult to master games are the ones that provide the long term fun. And I think that complexity can be added to the game that doesn't scare people away. What becomes not fun (for most) is if things are both complex and confusing, so that it is not clear what to de to achieve a desired result. In my opinion, a great deal of complexity and ability to drill down and micromanage need not make the game "hard" to
