Personalized flag in 3d map

I know personalized heraldry and so forth has been discussed before, and I think it is expected to be in. I was just thinking in MoM how each of your settlements had the little colored flag to show who owned it, and maybe for the 2d map view just going with a color is the best way to go. However, when you zoom into 3d map view on a town, it would be cool to see your personally created flag waving in the wind. It would be really cool if we could just import a 80 x 100 (or whatever size works best) jpeg and have that image be our flag and have it show up in the 3D view.

Very minor detail, but I think it would be a nice touch.

Might I add that it would be cool to have transparencies to make interestingly shaped flags.

As much fun as that would be, that'd quickly make the game illegal in Germany whenever you played with me.

^_^

We should make Germany (and Austrailia) illegal for overdoing the "citizen protection" thingy.:P

Does Australia also have some sort of ban on marketing Nazi memorabilia or exceptions to free speech rules that let cops shut down neo-Nazi marches and rallys? I've always tended to think of Aussies as rowdier than us U.S. folks, and we certainly have 'liberal' Jewish lawyers defending the free speech rights of neo-Nazis.

Re the OP, allow me to put on my World's Most Demanding User hat and request that the heraldry tool include links to as many design elements as possible. A full coat-of-arms on the flag is a good start, but the choices we make for our heraldry should affect details on public buildings, default appearance of garments in the Unit Builder, etc.

No, but they (just like Germany also have) have some serious laws about blood and sex in videogames, afaik. As far as I know, they have no political censorship laws. But on the other hand, I'm not an Aussie.

Really? I'd like to see that.

Yeah, I remember when we discussed this way back. The possibility of a "heraldry builder", with "attachment point" and a grand number of options, making it easy to smack things together.

The Australia part was for all that thing about blood and violence, as Luckmann said. Let's not get started on the USA and nipples. Especially during public TV events (doesn't beat porn during the Super Bowl though :P).

In the U.S, you can have SAW-like scenes with zombies eating the eyes out of unsuspecting victims, but you can't show a little skin. In Germany, you can have full frontal nudity or basicly hardcore porn, but you cannot show blood.

I think it's futile to discuss who is sillier than the other. I'm not entirely sure where Australia factors into this, but I think it's more on the violence side.

Germany also comes with the added issue of being absolutely balls-all-out-paranoid when it comes to anything even remotely dealing with WW2 and historical accuracy. The law itself is so open to interpretation that it's often referred to as a rubber-law. Unfortunately, calling it a rubber-law is also illegal. Funny, that.

Too keep this somewhat in the line of the thread, I found the original one. Been over a year:

That thread from December '08 does make me wonder if we might see a prototype of the hearldry tool somewhere in Beta 2. I'm hoping it can be fun/useful on the cloth map.

Really? I'd like to see that.

Assuming your "that" is about US free speech and not Aussie rowdiness, Aryeh Neir did it in 1977 in 'the Skokie affair.'

Well, Boogiebac said (for those who didn't know but read this):

"We'll have custom and dynamic coats of arms, but it'll be a visual thing for the Dynasty system instead of something to give various bonuses. As familys marry and expand, you can imagine the parts of different logos being combined in various ways (or so we're planning atm)." (https://forums.elementalgame.com/365319)

So I'm hoping to actually try it during Beta 1 (next update is about Dinasties, right?) and experience it better during Beta 2.

Now that you mention it, I'd probably like to see both. But that'll do, thanks.

Wow, I had completely missed that (I'm not around as much as before).

That's cool.
