It was clearly stated (at least when they started) that these betas were online. Non beta game is not online and can be played normally without internet connection. Someone should have been repeating for the "newbies" about the required internet connection for the betas, I suppose.
Yet my full metal melee Sovereign with Daring and hundreds upon hundreds of bandits (and other stuff) dead (all that while the rest of the army watched)... pulled only 2 Daring Strikes. Damn 3% and lack of bug for Sovs. :P
