After a huge wait, the computer finally found the updates I could uninstall, I did that (VERY SLOW) and shut the computer down; While shutting down, very slowly, it is trying to install windows updates. The thing is still incredibly slow as if there is a serious problem, but I don't know what the problem can be. It's even worse now, it's almost impossible to click on anything to get it to do anything to fix itself. Could it have been hacked (how?)? Anyhow, I am at my wit'

Edit: It doesnt seem to show the Windows updates anymore in the Installed Updates lists, only things for .NET framework and Office, altogether about 90 Updates, but now none for Windows, and it is still very slow. Should I try to updates windows now manually? Would you know how to do that? Or should I just try the "Restore" option? Thank you so much
OK I am going to try to uninstall the latest Update. Do I understand correctly that I need to manually re-install it afterwards? And is System Restore something else? Wizard, Google Translate does NOT do a good job of rendering German. It's almost impossible to understand the junk it creates. THanks much folks!
Thank you! The scan just ended: it said "keine Intergritätsverletzungen gefunden" so no errors were found! Is that a bad sign? The computer is still lame. SHould I go ahead and de-install the updates? This is Windows 7 Home Premium. I am not sure what else I have to do!?! THank you
Tausend Dank Wizard! Can I ask you questions in German if I really need to? The command thing seems to be doing something, it is at 7% now. I am hoping it is a problem with Windows Update, but of course I have absolutely no idea. I really appreciate your time and effort, thank you! Edit: You really don't speak German, do you? Du musst mich gar nicht siezen!
EDIT: I found the "Command" thing (in Germand it is "Eingabeaufforderung"!). I typed in sfc /scannow (with space between sfc and /) and it seems to be doing something. Thank you so much, I pray that this will help! I will ask more if and when this process is done, it has been a couple of minutes and it is still at "0%" completed.
THank you so much, people. Everything is going so slow on that computer I am having problems finding the "Command" prompt. Where do I find that? Sorry I should say I am running this in the German language. Computer is so screwed I cannot make a screenshot. (Task manager seems to find nothing huge.) I did a "search" for "Command" and cannot find it. I hope it is called the same in German. Sorry to be stupid. Is it under "System"? I believe the last update HAS been insta
Hello all, I don't know where else to ask, I trust and respect you here. I am a computer idiot who knows nothing, but this much seems evident: I run Windows 7 Home Premium on a Sony Vaio laptop, about 3 years old, never a problem; after the last automated Windows update (12 September), the computer seems as if lamed. Sometimes working ok, but often as if there is "lag", most programs freeze up, I cannot use Internet Explorer, and everything is slllooooow, although task manager (when it fi
Wow that's fast! I bet I am the only one that thinks it could use another month however. What's the hurry all of a sudden?
Shout out seconded! Thank you!
I also love the general principle and goal, but it's like the old monty python sketch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNfGyIW7aHM A couple of the the things you can see on the kickstarter page sadly make me hesitate: - "For example, a space yard is a solution that will be new to this genre, where users can design their own spacecraft." --> that's a new idea? I mean, I am trying to appreciate the differen
Nice review. It's been ages, I cannot remember if I even have that disk anymore. I looked and found SEV. Why do you find SEIV to be that superior to SEV? Can't say I found the AI decent in either. How do you think it stacks up vs. DW?
Just curious, since I had recently pulled Diablo2 off the shelf and reinstalled it for a little bit of reminiscent hack-n-slash dungeon crawling fun. To be honest, I really liked that game for a long while, and playing it again single-player hardcore brought back good memories. Of course, I got sick of battle.net idiots and the tons of cheating and the inflation it brought with it, but that was a really well-done dungeon crawler IMHO. I realize no one plays that anymore since Diablo3
Hey thanks. Hero Academy seems to be MP only, so that's no go (no internet in NY subway), and I had some problems finding a "dragon lair" type of game called The Act. But thanks much for tips!
End game is the most difficult challenge for TBSs. So far, I find the Elemental game setting to be just as challenged as other TBSs here; there is still a lot of late game tedium . I do not think that FE is much worse off than other (successful) games out there, such as the Civilization franchise -- some of whose iterations I really liked, despite, in my opinion, suffering the most from Late Game Tedium with the possible exception of Domini
Thanks much louist and UA -- I'll check out Hero Academy and probably get BfW, which I like as a PC game -- didn't know they ported it to iPhone for $5. I'll see how it goes. Thanks!
After having recently moved to America, I obtained an iPhone. While I do dislike the fact that I cannot interface with my PC in terms of transfering data (docs, pictures, videos, etc.) between the two easily, the display seems nice, and I see there are a bunch of games you can get for them in the "Game Center". I tried out a couple of free ones, such as chess, which I let my son play, but the other free games under the category "Strategy" or "RPG" actually seem to suck, although some of them
Guessing the OP means "earliest computer game"? If so, I have recently played and have continued to play a computer chess program I dug out of the cupboard and gave to my son a few years ago after he tired of it. I think it was made in 1982. I still play Dominions 2, which might as well be made in 1982, even though it isn't. I recently replayed the original Deus Ex, whcih I love, and right after that Planescape: Torment.
Excellent, Wisconsin had way too many electoral votes
Beta 3 has a lot of cross-path technology unlocks, doesn't it? Do you want more? Less? Structured differently?
What I mean with more and surreptitious cross-path technologies I have outlined ad nauseum elsewhere ( linked above ). In general, however, I would have liked to have a system by which the majority of breakthroughs yield multiple interconn
Do not get E:WOM. I preordered it, and had taken part in the beta process, and got my ass kicked for it. I see no reason why anyone should preorder FE; wait for it to come out and check out the reviews. But if you are of a similar mind as the majority of the people here seem to be, "playing" the beta could be fun for you, but I belong to the small minority which finds that odd. I don't really "play" the beta, I have tested it, and it wasn't fun, it was work. (The CEO of Sta
While I realize that neither Brad nor Derek has responded or probably will, my 2 cents: The OP nailed a lot well, but I would leave it at 1, 4 (modified a bit from his ideas) and 6. - I don't need other planes of existence if the Elemental franchise makes good on its promise to have a really funky dungeon system in place. - I don't think every game needs naval battles. Unless they are really wonderful in and of themselves, I'd rather "just" have tactical
Rise, Rise, RISE FROM THE DEAD oh thread! The meagre onomastikon hath questions! For whatever reasons, I realize that I have this demo from steam on my machine and just checked it out now. (Yes I'm eclectic.) I like the flavor of it. I have never played a TW game before, so everything was new. I thought to myself: Well, it's been well over a year, let's check it out: And it is still 40 Euros on steam. The expansions and other DLC also seem to be full price. I
Back to the original topic, as someone who so far has passed on this title because of the way most people felt about the AI (as well as what the reviewers indicated was a serious lack of in-game information), has the patch changed either of this two issues significantly?
Looks like this might be nice for multiplayer. I think I'll pass, however, given the nature of combat and what appears to be the AI's inability to deal with it.
