Erm, does the game require Steam to be activated and an online connection in order to play?!?

@Seanw3 -- Planning: yes most definately. Logistics: to a certain degree. Tedium : No, absolutely not. Planning is all about making relevant, polyvalent choices that matter. These can be complex or simple. Complexity has no bearing whatsoever on tedium. Good UI and AI are there to help alleviate tedium. AI is, in this regard, much like subordinates are in a large office: I, as the CEO, make the decisions, but my subordinates carr
So how's the AI here living up to its promise?
I hope some eventualities discussed here might be considered for FE Beta 5. Seems just as needed now.
Quoting onomastikon, reply 88 I really, really hope you will succeed in this. I have yet to see a TBS in which any queue has been able to have this power. I disagree. Civ 4 largely achieves this. Most buildings in Civ4 have no or low maintenance costs. The constraint for virtually all of the game is that you only have enough production to build some of the buildings and units you want. This is part
The only game I've ever seen which had alternative Victory Conditions that actually meant something was Star Chamber. In other games, including Stardock's, achieving an alternative VC is really only possible once you have obtained a dominant position otherwise. What I'm noticing for the first time is that this might have a "focus on multiplayer". If that's true, that would be a deal-breaker for me, since I already have my MP needs met. I'm STIL
I don't like maintenance. [...] Instead I want to make the queue so central that you are making hard decisions about what to put it in. There are lots of things you would love to do, and that is your constraint,
I really, really hope you will succeed in this. I have yet to see a TBS in which any queue has been able to have this power. I believe this will be your hardest task. If you succeed: ha
Why does that look interesting to you?
Thanks much, almost all of this looks very promising! Two questions, if I may? 1. Since the economy is no longer based off the population, what is population mainly good for now? 2. A possible idea in addition to your other ideas regarding constraint #3 (economy based off population) in your original OP post: Instead of making bonuses based off population size, you could always make bonuses based off population tiers, e.g. <10, <50, <200, <500, <1000 and &
Yep. Totally different situation from, say, the 3 victory conditions in Star Chamber, where it can often be a nail-biting race or surprising twist to see who pulls off what. FE's "alternative" VCs are weaker, too, than Distand Worlds' alternatives, since those can be activated at lower thresholds and are often hybrids themselves. With that being said, I don't think the Civilization franchise's alternate VCs were much good, either (although I have never played ite
I also agree that this makes sense as an explanation and also sounds reasonable. However, the last time I pre-ordered a game was WoM, and I vowed in August (what year was that, 2010?) never to do that again, so I will actually wait for reviews before purchasing.
That's not a good sign. It was alpha just a couple of weeks ago. Why the hurry? Earlier is almost never better.
Not to belittle anyone's opinion, but people really need to take off the glasses of nostalgia. Graphics and AI are painfully bad. Balance is horrible (what balance?). The world setting is still great but that's because I prefer more distinguishef high fantasy.
This isn't about which game is "better", in which context one really need remove glasses of nostalgia. Obviously, FE has higher production values and its
Just recently re-installed MoM (the 1994 one) via GOG. I haven't played that in a decade, and I am surprised at how fun and pleasant it still is to me. Sure, there are numerous bizarre quirks, and the graphics and the interface are incredibly antiquated, but I really enjoyed it, and not only for nostalgia. I think if anyone is going to make a fantasy game which should be the spiritual heir to MoM, or whatever the phrase that Brad used back in 2009, it is ok to compare the two in at least
thanks much!
I am facing an upcoming intercontinental move (moving to USA) and am in a logistical jam. I will want to save a bunch of data, some largish files but mostly tons and tons of smaller files organized into folders, without making buckets of CDs/DVDs and without external drives. I've been told that there is virtual storage to be had for "free" (I suppose you must suffer ads), but I haven't the slightest idea of what is trustworthy and idiot-proof and functional (reasonable upload/DL times
Is the consensus that the AI is very poor in the current build? Is the consensus that the AI will probably not get seriously improved in future patches? Really would like to know this, since SP AI is everything for me. Thanks much
Endoric, the post you made here and to which I already replied there was made on the wrong sub-board. Post in the general discussion area.
Thanks. I've been seeing a lot of talk of demo and beta, but I can't find either. There's a huge green "Sign Up" button on the Endless Space site, but clicking that gets you an "Error 404" -- that's disheartening. Not even a download tab. Am I missing something?
When a cop can just jump your fence at any time and shoot your family on any pretext whatsoever, that's a problem.
That's exactly my point. In America, the only first-world country which still executes its own citizens (less than 4 other countries have a higher rate of capital punishment), its civilian population would much rather enjoy the personal liberties of instantaneous gratification in the form, f
But isn't this America? I mean, sorry, isn't this fairly close to being the least of America's own Frankensteinian problems?
Thanks much so far! Good, helpful comments. I would be glad to hear some sort of elaboration on Tattyhat's part, too, because, as I said above, I'd like to know "why". I'd like to follow up on only 2 of your very helpful comments, seanw3
Isn't that what 4x gamers have always been asking for? Interesting choices. And this game is full of them. Beyond that, each race approaches these concepts in unique and int
I'd like to re-ask my question from page 1: how do you think this game "compares" to Distant Worlds Legends? Particularly in terms of AI. I don't want to purchase an SP TBS game and have no opponent.
In truth I found ES to be all about micromanagement in the excessive.
