Thank you for the replies regarding AI, gentlemen. May I ask: How is the pacing? Is it as slow and all-encompassing as Distant Worlds? (And general comparisons to DW are welcome.) Or as quick (but, sadly, as repetitive or, I might dare to say, as boring) as Armada 2526 Supernova? Thank you, much appreciated

Thanks. OK, if I were to fly to New York City, could I buy beer in a supermarket there, or would I need to go to a specialty store or distributor? But I can still buy large-caliber firearms without a problem, right? (Also no irony intended here...)

Hey thanks much for those replies. I am fairly sure there was some attempt at a "subliminal message", but it could have been a bit of advertising ("smoke Camel cigarettes") for all I know. Would any of the smart people here know where I could find a still shot of the scene I mean? I seem to come up blank. Thank you.

Just saw The Avengers in the English version original at a cinema in Berlin -- quite enjoyable, methinks. In the final shot before the credits roll, we see the Stark building, heavily damaged, so that the STARK logo is blasted away, leaving only an A and a bunch of wiring and damaged concrete. In the area to the right of the A, in the wiring and damaged concrete, it appeared to me that there was some attempt at an etching of a kind of "subliminal message"; I'm not sure how to say th

It has apparently been deleted, you can no longer find the thread, or Brads posts in his post history. I could not even find my own post.
[e digicons]:O[/e] Yikes!! [e digicons]:X[/e]

There was a post by Brad Wardell on this about two weeks ago, I cannot seem to find it. Has it been radically edited, or even removed?

I consider myself a cineast, I love good films, especially bizarre ones and ones that can be considered part of the sci-fi genre, even if that is fairly loosly taken. I like everything from well-established artists (Kubrick, Kurosawa, Tarkovski, Fassbinder, Van Trier, etc.) to weirdo fringe stuff you can only see at film festivals (which we have a lot of here in Berlin). At the college where I teach ethics, I run a monthly "Philosophy and Science Fiction" evening, in which a meaty sci

Finally got enough time in to vote. 0.91 is a significant improvement from E:WOM and I feel things are heading in a general positive direction. I voted "poor". I think it was close to being "fair", but I often felt that I was working for Stardock rather than having a fun leisure-time activity. The main issues for me were probably pacing, balance, and development. PACING: While I think the bugs and stability issues I experienced were within the realm of the a
I don't want to sound defensive but I thought I was pretty clear in precisely the kinds of feedback I have said makes me think a person is looking for a different game -- requests for elimination of the technology tree or that it all be randomized.
I hope I am reading that wrongly. It sounds frighteningly close to the phrasing of some of your posts in June of 2010. That sort of thinking didn't turn out so well for you.
Move random events away from being random and into being “choices”. For instance, an event that currently just random makes everyone go to war instead turns into a council where everyone votes on whether to have a war of finality or an emissary comes and demands you give them 10% of your income, if you fail fortresses appear on the map that begin attacking everyone. Have weapons and armor that are “better” but cost significantly m

Alright, thanks much for these helpful replies! I suppose a part of my worry was that I have not gotten past step 9 of the "war" tutorial, which seems to be the fourth tutorial or so; although I've tried it four times now, the script gets stuck when my little "army" attempts to disembark at an island. Just makes me a bit more apprehensive than I'd normally be.

Because RTS has never really been my cup of tea (much more a TBS kind of person), I have so far never purchased a Paradox product. This one, however, has caught my eye, and has been wondering if this might be worth the risk. I have downloaded the demo and so far been somewhat dumbfounded by the tutorials, which seem to hang a bit for me. While I like the idea that there are thousands of tiny little shiny things that may or may not have any sort of impact on the other bits of stuff float

Seems that threat assesment might need to be adjusted a bit. In the second example of the first video, it seems that the AI was hoping on luck to be able to out-maneuver the monsters based on a number of variables all of which were difficult to predict. But in the first example (the drake), the AI had ample, simple and, it seems, fairly consistent and unambiguous information available to it but did not assess the situation correctly.

So the player base is a lot of modders, and not much for writing scenarios or campaigns.
