Was that confirmed? If so, I'd expect to see the next Stardock game on all DD platforms, but requiring Reactor. That's fine by me if that happens. I'd just get Gamersgate version and save a couple of bucks.

I just want the 1.3 betas right now, I want to see what you've been up to, and I'm ready for some new toys to play with.
There might have been a contractual obligation to not use Steam, or Stardock may have an agreement with Gamestop where they get a very good deal on Impulse (like maybe Gamestop only gets 10% instead of 30% for example). This is conjecture, but a very reassnable assumption, though one Stardock would not and likely could not confirm. There may be a business reason for them not to use Steam.
I don't think you have anything to worry about- any real changes Gamestop would do to ruin things, there would be advance notice, and you can play your games without Impulse now, so if it goes bad, just uninstall Impulse, and stop doing business. If that means giving up Stardock games, I will, but I don't think it will come to that, and I think Brad would come up with his own solution if it came to it, like what some other folks do (a few publishers on Steam hav
This has gotta suck for the devs who have games on PSN also, as people will be less likely to buy on there now. The guys I feel most sorry for is Aksys with Arcana 3 heart. Sony pushes them back to the same day as Mortal Kombat, then this happens to them. Really shitty timing.
The best way to counter bad PR is to put out products that are considered to be good. Look at the example of Chuck Amato. When he had Philip Rivers and was winning tons of games- his act was awesome, and the red shoes were a sign of swagger. When he lost Philip Rivers and wasn't winning, his act was stupid, and the red shoes were said to have needed a matching nose and wig. When FE comes out (provided it delivers) things will be
[quote who="Raven-sb" reply="25" id="2924228"]Maybe my memory is failing me here, but wasn't it Gamestop who caused Stardock problems with Demigod by allowing people to buy it before the servers were ready? If so, then I imagine, Brad required some convincing before he sold impulse to them. I can understand WhiteElks caution. The PC gaming market at the moment, is in my opinion, very consumer unfriendly. I am very wary about picking up games these days f
That first one, is because of Gamestop's mistreatment of retail- forcing employees to shill pre-orders or lose hours. When you need hours, you'll do anything to keep them. I believe that Stardock was better then the competition. I don't believe that Gamestop is worse. That's how little regard I hold Valve and Gamersgate in. I'll give Gamestop a chance to rebuild their image, but if they don't, it won
I wish Brad could appease the tinfoilers (Sorry, but that's how I see you guys), by offering retail FE as mail order (at a higher cost, even if it's just like the retail disc I got for Altarian Prophecy all those years ago)- BTW, I had to get retail due to not having internet access for six months- by the time I got internet again GCII was in beta.
I don't think we get 1.2 until it's ready. It's taking a long time to get ready, but there was a lot of work to do. The important thing is getting it right though, even if it's frustrating to not get new toys.
BTW I'd like to see crossbows added, lower RoF, no STR/DEX bonus, but better penetration vs armor.
WhiteElk, you're still getting FE for free. You can judge from that.
No one's perfect. Brad made plenty of mistakes with Elemental, but he's taken every reasonable step to fix the problem. Now we just have to see if they pay off or not. With the FE info given so far, I am optimistic, and I even think Brad's WOM work has a chance. WhiteElk, I hope you realize that Brad was joking on some of this stuff, or being sarcastic- it was rather obvious to me. That said, it does take more to bring talent to Michigan, as l

Yeah, the caravan system needs an overhaul, it's even less fun then freighters in GC2.
Just saw the casting time on spells. Maybe that should be a function of things like techs and maybe stats/items? A base time for a spell, then modifiers like INT (having below-INT needed for a spell like some sovs would have should make the spell take longer, having huge INT should improve casting time), also magic techs and enchanted staves/rings should lower casting time. Spells should not end a turn like they do if this system is implemented.
The ultimate example of a Franchise where the first game was a disaster but later ones made tons of money- Street Fighter.
I'm glad you're doing this- I'm sure you have some good ideas- and the best ideas could be taken and put into FE, or the other expansion. That said, I do think you could have radically changed the economics of GCII with another expansion, as it was an area people were critical. One thing I noticed is that it seemed some of those ideas for GCII made it into EWOM, when perhaps they weren't suited for a fantasy game as much. The
I've put WOM aside until 1.3 comes out. Got other things to play right now. As long as either 1.3 or FE ends up being the game I expected when I paid for Elemental, I'll be satisfied.
GalCiv3 was already announced as happening at some point, probably 3 years+ away.
I gotta say that I agree with Brad's analysis, but it's dependent on Gamestop doing the right things businesswise. I don't think that's a slam-dunk sure thing, though I think the odds are pretty good. I'll say this, if Impulse purchases give discounts at Gamestop, I'd be more likely to shop at Gamestop (though I expect my days of console purchasing end with the PS3, it's getting too evil) I just wish the Impulse p
A lot of those Impulse copies were discounted, so it's probably less then that.
Brad may not want to publicly say if he has an alternative idea or not- I don't think Gamestop would be too happy if they felt he was trying to hold them over a barrel on Impulse. I wish Brad was at liberty (I'm guessing he isn't, but he won't be able to confirm or deny this I'm sure) to divulge more details over what protections Stardock has or what Gamestop's long-term ideas are. That said, do you guys REALLY think Brad would
Ultimately, DD wasn't going to survive with just indies running it. The big boys were going to start muscling out the little guys at some point, and now we're seeing it. Things move fast in today's society, and big money controls everything. I just hope steam's current dominance will force Gamestop into not messing with the core base of Impulse customers. Honestly, I think the rage around here, while justified, may convince Gamestop tha
As for Din's, the creator doesn't like it put it on sale. One game I was waiting for a while- Shira Oka- got put on sale at Gamersgate, so picked it up there. I've never been picky between Impulse and Gamersgate except for DRM, and Shira Oka DRM can be removed after install and it runs fine (ok with that sort of DRM)
