Or, it's possible Brad isn't familiar with Gamestop's reputation, and believed Gamestop at face value, not knowing the outrage it would cause. BTW: the SEC doesn't appreciate April Fool's joke, and Gamestop announced this as a public corp- so it's not a joke. They warned and fined WWE when they did a storyline over the WWE being bought by Donald Trump.

The free market has failed the US broadband market. Collusion has taken hold. Look at NC, where Time Warner has gotten the state house to vote to legalize and enforce the broadband monopoly against their own cities. While that's not on the level of outrage as Wisconsin/Ohio union-busting, that's only because they already have that here. Sometimes to get things done, raging and revolt is needed. We're not at that point
SD is keeping a DDL for its desktop side of the business. I really think if Gamestop goes evil, it wouldn't be hard for Brad to start sticking his games there also- that's how Stardock Central, which became Impulse, got started. Really, if Brad just announced that his games would also be going there, I'd have no worries at all. Another one of my concerns- what about Stardock's beta cycle- would that be dependent on Gamestop?&
A lot of it is because it's beating a dead horse. There have been hundreds of these threads. Hopefully FE is good so these threads stop.

Competition for any one particular customer is almost non existent. The size of the U.S. alone makes it difficult for most companie

But honestly trying to spin it as if it's some great boon to the PC gamer community is more of a slap in the face. For people who hate Steamworks it might actually turn out to be a good thing, simply because Gamestop has significantly more clout to actually do something about it then Stardock does.
<
You both could be right simultaneously. I loathe the news myself, but until Gamestop does something wrong, I'm not going to start boycotting Impulse. That said, they won't get any benefit of the doubt given their history. That said, I don't think Gamestop will get too stupid, because if they do, Steam will eat Impulse's lunch. That said, for every longtimer that leaves, someone new will take their place, and they'll be easier to please.</
They got pissed once when the WWE did a storyline about an acquisition, so the SEC part is legit. That said, this should have waited until Monday to avoid the April Fools suspicions.
awesome guys. this is just what the game needed: a separation of the ideas of weapon role (technology) and quality (magic). it's pretty much how i would have done it. like someone mentioned, i would have preferred the emphasis to be placed on weapon reach and turning abilities rather than damage types (ie, spears get first strike against enemies in front, but can't counter attack units attacking from the flanks), but that's largely minor
I have a ton of requests/ideas here. Idea, borrowing from Din's: Legendary Armor Sets: Create groups of equipment: like say, Ceresa's Set: A Cloak, Staff, Sandals If you gain multiple pieces of the set, you get an additional bonus. Maybe have spell effects also apply to the user of the weapon (% chance on hit, % chance on crit) Certain weapons should affect defense when used vs certain weapons: <

I just wish business owners like Brad were more common, this country would be better off that way.

So yea, the peons will become fodder for sure compared to champions but on the other hand, people will be running around with much larger groups.
Wouldn't 1HP make weapons irrelevant for fighting peons, as it will all be landing hits? Also what about your low-level monsters?
This is why delays > crunch. Simply put, I don't think a developer can put their best work out while crunching. This is why I cringe and worry about a game's quality whenever I hear about crunch. I don't think GC2 had anywhere near the amount of crunch Elemental did. My experiences working all-nighters in weather - I understand the giddiness part of that myself.
I'm kinda hoping that EWOM and FE get combined at some point- I want a 4X game with Kael's changes. There is a 2nd XP planned for 2012, so maybe then. I'll have to see what FE ends up like first though.
Finding out the MP gets worse/dumber as you rank up. Size limits grow too big. I think it's time to wait for patch, and if needbe, walk.
Personally, I know I won't drop $100 on a game anymore, because there's always the chance of it being a disappointment. I may get $100 value from a game, but the odds of a $50 game providing that aren't always that high. Even games I thought would be a slam dunk can and have turned out disapponting. Standard release+ XP model is the safest model for me. I usually know from the original whether the XP's will be worth the money,&nbs
I don't think it's dying, but I think it takes a specific skillset and genre to make it work, one which guys like you and Paradox have. There's a reason Stardock isn't making a FPS. BTW Elemental cost $50. The AAA PC titles now go for $60. I think the proper pricing point for a middle-market game is $40-$50, so Elemental was on the high end, but acceptable. Paradox games, just wait six months unle
On when a faction dies: here's my idea. When there's options: what happened will be a function of chance, relations, and power. If a faction has an adult male heir- they become a sovereign, and the faction stays in the game. If a faction has egalatarian, and an adult female hair, they became a sovereign. The husband will join the faction if there is one, kids have a chance to. If a faction has an adult female he
Sounds like a possible bug from GC2? I remember GC2 having that bug before.
Microsoft would be so much better off if they just used Impulse as GFWL. It makes so much sense, why don't they do it? Would be a win for both companies Stardock would get more high-end games to gain market share Microsoft would get a platform for PC that doesn't suck. It's not like they're not used to working together on top of that. It just seems like a no-brainer to me. (I'm sure MSFT Egos and mid-level managers are getting in
The thing is- Stardock games in such a situation would be very easy to set up pirate versions for, so I'm not too worried about it. BTW- the expansions being DD only , Stardock did that with GalCiv also. No need for the tinfoil hat on this one- it's a business profitability decision, not an anti-piracy decision. You also can archive to disk yourself if you so choose, and Stardock has said they'll offer updated discs in the future for a small
It isn't very immersive- it's a very well-done lootdrop game with a twist. Makes it a perfect time-waster.
Yeah, I'm saying 10% or so. I'm also counting people who use Steam but prefer non-Steam.
That's market share for Impulse I believe , not the total amount of Steam-haters. Also there are folks who will use Steam yet don't like it much (like me)
