I thought you had to uninstall beta 3 to get beta 4, as the previous betas required this I believe (may be wrong) Doing this, I couldn't install. System Restore to undo the elimination of beta 3 then upgrading did work.

I'm passing on win 8, and might just make sure to buy my next laptop so I don't get stuck with Windows 8

The best way I can describe good game AI is: It's generally smart but specifically stupid.
why does it have to be specifically stupid? what if Steam bricked your account of dozens of games under false pretenses, and you couldn't get it resolved because they wouldn't believe you. This has happened before at least once. You'd be out of stuff you've spent around $1,000 for. That's something I'd want to sue over. While I don't tihnk current Valve would do anything too bad, it's future Valve I'm worried about, not current Valve. When you buy from
This game brings back memories- used it to get through tech school.
I want an alternative to Steam because it could easily go bad for consumers very quickly. And any game (particularly primary single player) that is reliant on a web-site service to be played at all is at the mercy of whether that web-site continues to operate in the same way or is sold to less "discerning" owners.
This is a legitimate worry. Everyone "goes evil" eventually if they get big enough. &
Not from Europe- going to MLG for this in a couple of weeks, will likely get exposed hard since the VF pros are better than I am.
It would be well beyond our capability. The best we'd be able to do is create our own custom Linux-based distribution. As it stands, we're pretty happy with Windows. Even Windows 8, minus "Metro" is pretty outstanding IMO. The biggest worry we have remains the attempt to merge a desktop experience and a mobile experience into a one-size fits all solution complete with its own walled garden.
Is this still scheduled to come out next week or will it be delayed?
I think the best solution for Win7 users is voting with our wallets- just don't buy Windows 8 at any price, and hopefully devs refuse to support it. Make it fail hard enough that MSFT doesn't try it again.
Offline mode doesn't work for everyone. and it's occasionally buggy for me the rare times I've needed it (and always slow).
My concerns with Steam: 1) It's market power and ability to change the TOS whenever it wishes: That's near-absolute power, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I wouldn't trust Brad with this power either. Some great games (Din's Curse), and some interesting niche games, have been shafted by Valve in the past. A free market instead of a failed market (and DD is a failed market) would force consumers into having mult
Well if you buy a Stardock game on Steam, you're fine as long as either Stardock OR Steam are around. Of course, if Stardock were ever to fold (not bloody likely) we'd just put our stuff out into the public domain. Gog, Desura, Gamersgate, even Impulse are still fine services. My issue is Steam's policies and its ability to enforce them in a draconian fashion at will in a way the other services can't. I just really hope Stardock doesn't go Steam mandatory. I really want to see Valve broken up by antitrust now. The CFPB needs antitrust power.

Is your arbitration experience versus other corporations or versus individuals? Statistics such as these: http://centerjd.org/content/fact-sheet-mandatory-binding-arbitration-corporate-end-run-around-civil-justice-system I know, may be a biased opinion piece, but it does cite sources- states that at best, consumers win 5% of the time,
I'll say this: I really hope Stardock doesn't go to mandatory Steamworks again after Rebellion. You should be selling the game on Steam, but you need to keep SDC as an option for all future games. Valve just has too much capability to go evil very quickly for me to ever trust them fully. I'll use Steam, but I don't purchase AAA games on Steam ever.
Bronies are very similar in how they behave to similarly aged anime fans in the mid-90's. I did my share of cringeworthy things back then. I got no problem with bronies, not a fan of the show, but some of the art is nice, and I have plenty of friends who love the show, and I understand why. Many of them also love fighting games (and there is a MLP/Fighting game crossover that was demoed at Evo this year)
You can get deals just as good on Steam's competitors. Also, not using the Steam Store- if there's a billing dispute, it's a lot less likely to end up with Valve bricking your account. I'll use it if I have no other choice, and it's something I really want, but that's very unlikely. Most times it's someone I know who made a game that is Steam-only, those are the only times I've really used the store in the past year or so.

I'm not speaking on behalf of Stardock here. I think it's quite silly not to purchase a game because it's on Steam, or it&
I want the sieges, naval warfare, independents, and more tactical options (provided the AI can handle those in quick combat) Don't want crafting and other planes. I also want Soul Calibur-quality customization of heroes graphically.

Perhaps. Given Valve's market position they need to be held to a much higher standard.
http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/ Clause 12 Why this is evil: Arbitration is often a kangaroo court, where companies win 99% of the time because the arbitrator's employment is determined by the company they are arbitrating. This is something I would actually think hard about boycotting Stardock over. Valve, I trust them less, and I'm uninstalling Steam over this.
