If you do the beta, you might get it tomorrow or Friday. I think the game is in a good enough state that a beta won't be too painful. As for a lack of guides/tutorials, you'll learn over time, this isn't a MP game where you're going to get destroyed. Losing can be fun in games like this.
Kiting works IRL also. Just ask folks who fought the Mongols. Imagine Mongols with healing potions. I think when folks complain about kiting, it's more a balance issue (mounts, particuarly the lack of cost/maintenance with mounts) instead of an AI issue. Mounts+archery/staves should have an additional multiplier on top of that. Training cavalry archers was super-difficult IRL.
[quote who="Frogboy" reply="51" id="3331947"] Quoting Kongdej, reply 43 Quoting Frogboy, reply 39The game itself continues getting developed every day. It just means that Beta 1 will be further along in other areas. It's not like the rest of the team is sitting around having beers waiting for the shadows to get in. I personally believe people work faster and produce higher quality stuff if they can rest and relax once in a while, so no evil faces from m
I don't think champion stack of doom will be a big issue. Most factions will end up with a similar number of heroes, if fame works the way I expect.
Just thought of this. Those of us who have the map pack through SDC- if LH is Steam install, will we need a Steam key for the DLC? Guessing you could replace the stamps folder, but might need a more elegant solution.
Challenging. I try hard not to exploit AI stupidity to make it fair.
Unrest should also impact city defenders- more unrest, the fewer you get, or the less HP they start with. Mercenary defenders would not be impacted (if you created such a thing)
I would like to see cities/conclaves get wall improvements. I could see conclaves having magical troops, and forts having higher trained troops.
Depends what you're playing. If you're wanting to play AAA games, you'll need a top-shelf graphics card. If you're not a AAA gamer- you probably can get by with a cheaper card. The only real TBS game that is AAA in terms of requirements is Civ V, and processor helps more there. I expect the next explosion in requirement will come on the RAM side of things once 64-bit takes off.
The Dynasty system won't be DLC. My guess is it either gets put into next expansion, or never. Items DLC pack is likely if they do another pack. It was one of the ones mentioned by Brad months ago.
Question re: Tarth/Mancer is Double strike fixed to actaully be -30 accuracy, and will it work with ranged weapons? It would be kinda bad if the ranged weapon faction's abilitiy doesn't work with ranged weapns. The Mancer special ability- does it apply to the strategic map, or just the tactical map. Having a 50% move bonus in the early game on the strategic map would be very hard to balance. Seeing some of those new traits- are
Asus G series has one huge advantage- it's cooling system is really top notch. It's the only laptop I would buy for gaming (others might be better, but I've gotten great use out of both Asus laptops I bought)
I don't think time off is a problem - Stardock isn't crunching as far as I can tell. Hopefully everyone is working 40 hr weeks and getting enough time off over there.
Prestige is gone, growth is based on potential population, unrest increases with number of cities.
It's not so odd when you consider that this is the first game series of an engine that will be used for future games coming down the pike. That said, for LH, I find the visual quality sufficient already, so holding back just because of shadows isn't something I particuarly like- I was hoping it was because you were working on balancing/bugfixing, which is what is most important.
Idea: Could GGPO work as a online code for a TBS game? I have my doubts, but it is fairly cheap to license.
pick up FE on sale, which will make LH cheaper. AOW3 wait for reviews and patches unless you're a huge fan of the series. AOW3 is going to have to step up its AI to compete with modern TBS games, unsure if they'll do taht, though the attempt will be made. (it sounds like they're trying to use some techniques from Stardock in terms of threading the game)
Last word was a one week delay, but I suspect it will be at least two- they gotta get 1.4 out first.
The granary change is good, but it looks like you forgot the storehouse change. Storehouses should be bumped to +50 grain instead of +40. Otherwise no reason to build.
They need to improve the AI. Also, you can really see how Stardock's threaded coding helps a game run better. FE can run smoothly on my old laptop, Civ V really churns. Too late for them to put that in though.
Wildlands benefits should be much stronger. Defeating a wildland guardian should pretty much win you the game, even if you are last in the power ranking. That should have been the alternate method of victory.
What Obama should do- say he will auto-pardon anyone convicted of this, and refuse to enforce this law.
I like this idea. Probably too late for the Elemental series though.
I don't know what you have planned for LH, but I am going to list all 10 factions, what I'd change, as a rough idea. Altar: I don't play them all that much, the whole henchmen thing turns me off, they just scream OP. Henchmen: I'd make them a spawn, with a cap of the number of 5th lvl heroes you have. You get one, they perma-die, but a new lvl 1 henchmen gets spawned a short time after, random chance each turn
