It doesn't matter what you're promoted as, but what you are used for. If companies are using this primarily for DRM, which I think could be proven, there could be anti-competitve behavior alleged on that front also. The question is would this apply to Impulse- and I think it wouldn't, as there aren't really any games exclusive to Impulse that aren't Stardock-published, and I think Gamersgate sells games with Impulse Reactor.

I was thinking, maybe there's another anti-competitive angle to this that I hadn't considered before, though it's the bad guys who would be complaining here. Steamworks DRM is free, which is its big selling point. Couldn't the other DRM makers claim that the integration of Steamworks and Steam DRM would be price dumping against them? Admittedly none of us like them, but they might have a better case, as price dumping would be clearer to see here.

Things I like about the game, either wholly, or I like the direction and just want expansion on the idea. I like how it interacts with Impulse. I haven't seen that done better in any other game. I like the building side of the game, though I think the 1.1 system will be a big improvement there. I like how the RPG elements interact with the game, though I think improvements can be made there. I thought reactor was already out- I see some games using it in Impulse. Stardock needs to try undercutting Steam on price to get people to use reactor, maybe even if it means taking a small loss. (maybe reduce the cut Stardock gets, but Stardock gets an exclusivity period or something?)

Hell even the consoles now have some maintance issues... j
That said, the beta is one of the reasons to pre-order, without an open beta , there would be no point in pre-ordering- just wait until it comes out. Stardock would get a benefit of seeing what the interest is, and it helps them make a proper budget.
Ideas on stats and other stuff off the top of my head. STR: damage, reduction to dex penalty for heavy armor. INT: overcoming saves, level of spell castable, power of summons WIS: saves vs most spells, tactical mana limit DEX: to-hit, DEF bonuses, combat speed bonus. CON: hp, healing rate, saves vs poison/disease. CHA: recruiting heroes, saves vs mental spells, stack bonuses I do think all units should have

If they created that shit, they should at least live up to it, if not them, who? I don't think it was intedned as bullshit. They need to try harder to live up to that. The Gamers Bill of Rights states that a game should function without technical problems. If it does, the gamer has the right to return it for a full refund. This is so
These sorts of posts are what got that thread locked. You guys should know better. As for the chargeback abuse, you're right that it's wrong. The anticonsumer policies involve chargebacks, as well as no refunds for technical issues (which Stardock offers and should be standard- I believe gamersgate offers this also) Poor support- your 1 day is my 1-2 weeks on average unstable servers- Steam crashed when I wanted to play TF2 whenever there was a major update or big game came out.
I'm not arguing Steam's quality, though I could. My main issue with Steam is that I dislike their anti-consumer policies, poor support, and unstable servers. I prefer Gamersgate and Impulse for those reasons I'm arguing that they are engaging in what is POTENTIALLY predatory, anti-competitive behavior.
[quote who="ZehDon" reply="33" id="2807935"]Supporting the market leader is not considered anti-competitive behaviour, regardless of it's implications. Valve was founded by ex-Microsoft employees, which in itself means nothing however it does give the situation an sense of deja vu. Civ 5 not being on Impulse, a DD service that disproportionately favors strategy gamers, is a sign that Stardock had its profits impaired by the tie-in between Steam and Steamworks. The fact that Impulse is forced to cannabilze is the anti-competitive impact to me.
Ok, how about this as an idea. Spell damage would be flat dice roll damage, but opponents can save vs spell to change effect high caster int makes the save harder, high target wis makes save easier Flame dart: does 2d4 damage. If saved 1d4 damage save is INTd2 versus target WISd2
I'm a little skeptical on the static spell damage myself. I'd like to see an caster's INT/ target's WIS relationship affect spell saves for more or less damage. Also, I'm a little worried people will shun the low lvl spells due to irrelvancy in the later part of the game, or in MP everyone rushing will mean only low lvl spells matter.
