Question related to the stats: Are STR/DEX/CON going to stay the same? Are regular units going to get STR/DEX/INT/WIS/CON/CHA stats? (I can see that helping with a concrete and elegant system for magically enhanced equipment, which I'd like to see) Yeah, the SamSho games were my favorite fighting game back in the day. Now it's the 3D fighters. On that end, I know it can never happen (for multiple reasons),

Couple potential ideas: Specialist heroes such as Merchant masters, lore masters- can promote a lvl 1 building into a better building that takes no specialist slot, and maybe has better abilities? Consumes the hero though. dragon Force for the Saturn was a nice game back in the day- wish the sequel had come over to the US. One of the three games that made me love the Saturn (Real Bout Fatal Fury and Guardian Heroes were the other two)<
Specialists= citizens is a good idea. Prestige can be used to show a more advanced empire probably more elegantly then what I suggessted.

Some ideas and blind feedback/suggestions I have, based on this informations. Spell requirements: Maybe do it this way INT: this will determine the spellls that can be cast (as suggested above), and have an effect on negating resistance to spells. WIS: Determines amount of mana that can be consumed in a turn by the unit. Allows for higher resistance to spells. (Wisdom is traditionally the save vs spell stat) Spells can take
Every few years I try to change my screenname, just to move away from past dislikes, and the fact that if you give yourself enough time, you'll say and do things that you regret unless you're a saint. I try to do this across the board- just because I've had people harass me from other forums in other places- some people can be malicious. I can understand why Brad is guarded now, he got burned bad, and looking at the QTT boards, there are a f
I bought a laptop with enhanced RAM 2 years ago (6 gigs) in order to use 64-bit capabilities. It's been $100 of wasted money for me as of yet, and with the laptop being finicky due to all the travel I do with it, it's tough to justify doing it again next year. (With my current job, I intend to buy a laptop every 3 years) Honestly, I'll be disappointed if 64-bit Elemental or GCIII doesn't happen. </

I think the arguement could be made that Steamworks DRM requiring the Steam store is anti-competitive. This would likely have more success in Europe.
Some consoles are really, really buggy. You've never played anything by SNK. Also, PC's are doing fine.
I remember hearing something about a 1 million accounts. I'm not too worried about Impulse going out of business. Stardock has no reason to stop. What I am worried about is Valve muscling games away from Impulse, such as Civ V. I hope Brad knows some good anti-trust lawyers, I hope not, but I got a bad feeling he may need them in a few years.
ElanaAhova- what's really needed, though it will never happen in a reasonable timeframe- is for Stardock to make the spiritual successor to Kohan. That game was the RTS for slower folks. There was some micro, but you generally were only controlling 7 units in the mid-game on average so it wasn't too hectic.
My own thoughts on the matter: I'm glad Elemental is getting worked on, I've said I'll stay the course on it. That said, I think there will be a tail of sales- but any standalone expansion is going to need real polish before being sold. That said, Tycho's right. When you guys do GalCiv III in 2012 or 2013, that's what is going to determine Stardock's future. I have a really good feeling about that game- one thing about Elemental,
[quote who="larienna" reply="25" id="2803845"]if you want to be a "VIDEO game designer" you need computer programming skills But for example, if you want to be a "board game designer" you do not need programming skills. Sorry but It frustrate me so much when people asume that "Game Design" = "Video game Design" Yes there are other types of games than video games that still exist (board games and sports are some example). In fact, video games are the last
I'd say wait for the big patch after 1.1 and what Kael does. Getting the game late won't make it worse when you do get it.
This leads to the question: do people want honest-to-goodness reporting or the LCD? Or are corporations manipulating the news for their own benefit?
Those people will come back when there's a major update. I've been called a fanboy on a few places- generally it's easier to just say yeah, I am, so what and let others deal.
A few tangentially related ideas: On the Horse Branch: I'd suggest that Horse Archery should probably be its own branch also, due to the potential of overpowering. Will Infantry units get special parts of the tree, such as Pike Formation for anti-cavalry? In regards to the requiring new equipment- I had this idea. Why not dump designing individual pieces of armor, in favor of suits of armor, and
Hopefully around mid November we can get a timeline of things you'd wish to do, but I'm not sure publicizing it would be the best idea. Also hopefully 1.1 still comes out this month, we haven't heard much about it.
Brad has talked about doing this with Impulse. Somehow I suspect if Valve did this, it would be a big gamechanger. Impulse would have to match at least, or do a version of GG's Blue Coins (I'd suspect GG and D2D would have real issues if this happened) BTW kryo/someone: this really needs a new topic title- it's gonna be confusing to folks.
One thing I'm hoping to hear soon, is what exactly Kael's ideas are.
The artwork may have been lifted, but it was not a for-profit mod. Fanmods and piracy-for-profit are two different beasts.
Hiring Kael in itself won't make the game better. That said, if you were to fix a game, he'd be one of my first picks, so I'm optimistic. It will still take time though, I'm sure.
Congrats to Kael.
There was a post by Brad on Elemental Support- when he said support for a sequel was pushed back to work on Elemental. To me, that pretty much confirms GC3 will be next (and probably was going to be for SD's main team- which is why I think the 2nd studio was propsed- they had two good ideas and only manpower for one). Also, with Elemental's launch problems, it would be the safe play to go to your most reliable IP afterwards. GCIII, working o
