OK, this is something I've been playing with in my own games for a while now. I'm a fan of faster games/units, hence this mod. Also, I like a little more differentiation in move rates over various terrain types, and have attempted to incorporate that concept into this mod.
This Mod increases movement over various terrain by up to 2x, over the current move rates. This means that a unit which has a move of 2 can move through up to 4 grassland squares. Other terrain types have lesser move rates (example: Rugged has a 1.6x multiplier).
Note that road movement is still 4x (it was 4x before, right?).
Tactical combat movement is unaffected, so, for example, if you had move rate of 2 in tactical before, you will still have a move rate of 2 in tactical.
As this is a 'universal' change, the AI will be using it as well...
NOTE: In order to eliminate double entries, the default CoreAbilities.xml file in the core game folder will need to be put somewhere safe while you use this mod. There are a few abilities that override move costs, so i needed to adjust them. Putting CoreAbilities2xMove in the Mods folder will result in double entries, which is rather annoying...
Note that the other file (TerrainTypes_2xMove) can be placed in the Mods folder as usual, with no worries!
This mod should work perfectly fine with any other mod that does NOT modify the CoreAbilities.xml file in the Core folder, or the TerrainTypes file. It'd be fairly easy to make the changes for any mods that are affected, so if there is sufficient interest in this concept, I can make some appropriate 'mod for that particular mod' packages, or they could incude this concept in their mod package if they feel so inclined...
Instructions for installation are included in the zipfile. Essentially put the two files in the relevant folders, put the default CoreAbilities.xml somewhere safe (i.e. some non-Elemental game folder), and voila!
I'm looking for feedback (particularly on the modifiers for non-clear terrain), so your comments and suggestions are most welcome!
