I posted a couple of bugs and to balance the negative tone of them, wanted to point quick impressions after some 30 turns on the overall state of the game, which are positive.
The game is looking very good (apart from the ugly river tiles), and in general it's fun to play. The learning curve at the beginning is much, much higher than with civilization, as I'm still at a loss at what I should really do in game and what +1 gildar or +1 grain or +X food for grain or +1 growth really mean.
Especially the food <-> grain thing is confusing. I would rename Grain to Fertility.
The UI is starting to feel very good to me. Some buttons are a bit small (end turn button is way too small!) but overall it's easy to find most of the stuff.
The part of the UI that to me feels like could be improved more is the treasure / quest windows:
- When you pick up treasure, there are two windows, first telling you that you found treasure and the second showing what you got. These should be just one window.
- With quests, at least in the case of the rat killing quest when picking up the quest it told me that I will get a Doom Mace as a reward, and I think it showed the stats of the Mace as well. But then when I finished the quest I was able to pick from three rewards, one of them being the Doom Mace. This time however it didn's show the doom mace stats so I had no idea should I take it or the 300 gildar or +20 influence.
I like the tactical battles, even though all units seem to miss very, very often, which feels a bit silly at times.
Hmm .. that's about it for now I think, can't think of much else to say from the quick try I did. All in all it feels quite good!
