I like the idea of rare but significant and interesting events, things you won't see every game; it means you might see a particular event for the first time during your 10th or 20th game, it helps replayability. That being said, I agree they're a little too rare now, cause I have yet to see any after a few games (..maybe I should get a cat?).
That's an excellent point. I'd agree, it would be nice to see occasional events, rare ones, and extremely rare ones.
Reminds me in this respect a bit of a favorite game of mine, King of Dragon Pass. It's a distinctive RPG/strategy/sim, built in part out of 600+ plots, some long, some very short, some of which are tagged for common use, plenty of others appearing only under certain conditions, or rarely. No two games play anywhere near alike. Which isn't to say that FE should be like that--but that replayability is I think enhanced by things that change from game to game, and can't be controlled by the user. The trick is making it just a few distinctive elements, rather than overwhelming the player with changes.
