My initial feelings with regards to Fallen Enchantress. Just a short version, mind you...Riight... I had some hours in now, still in my first proper game, but for the six hours I played I will tell you what I think of this. Of course, this is all my opinion, and should be treated as such. I've been gaming for 25 years, so I might have strong opinions on some matters
1. Fun factor: It is present alright. I am having fun. Yadda yadda beta bla... yes, beta or not, its fun. I enjoy seeing my soverigh level, I enjoy seeing my armies get stronger and I enjoy seeing my country develop. Mine armies are growing strong, I have specialized units for specialized jobs, and they all look very nice. The enemy dies, my amusement grows.
- I'd love some more variation in death screams. Shriek when they are set on fire! Muhahaha!
- Can I haz kittens please?
2. Units: Yeah, this is more like it. Specialized Archers, Specialized front-line fighters and a hero that also kicks ass. Me like like! I'm currently working on Berserker units as well... see how the fighting will go with a 2-handed axe and a massive Strength bonus and Brutality. In other words, it is very entertaining. I still miss some magical assault options though, would have loved something that tosses fireballs at the enemy, but I have to admit I have not yet tested the various rings and such.
- I miss special units with bonusses or combos that you cannot make yourself. Maybe I missed em, but I seem to miss em.
- Upgrading armor for 7700 gold? From Leather to Chain? That cannot be right!
- Would like to be able to add unit descriptions. Make em what, 400 characters, just a little something-something.
- Would be nice to be able to add special effects to armor and such by means of enchanting.
- See if you can keep leather armor viable unto the end-game. I dunno, penalties based upon choice of armor other than encumbrance or something, DEX penalties for heavier? Or is that already in? I will check.
- This one will probably not make it, but an Outfit system: I want to be able to dress up my warriors the way I want them to look (awesome) and not perse in their equipment looks. I admit I'm a spoiled brat, I play LOTRO for an MMO where one can have 7! different outfits on top of the regular "what you see is what you get" look. But my current favorit, dress-wise, is my "Lady of the Arrow"... they just dont look as good in chainmail, but I would love to upgrade their armor a bit. Being good-looking is just as important as being good-looking!
- No spellcasting in units? Or am I missing something? Would love to be able to include a bunch of priests to heal my armies
Or buff, or something.
- More different riding animals. Giant Turtles. Drakes. Leviathans. I dont know, just something. Add some amusing effects, poison for spiders, maul for bears and we are ok to go! Diversity is fun!
3. Cities: Hmm, like it so far. Not so sure what all the bonusses do, but there's a definate "fun factor" to building improvements and specializing cities.
- Being able to tooltip over the buildings so I Can demolish a conquered city piece by piece untill it turns out a profit would be nice.
- Being able to demolish cities from the city details window would be nice(r).
- City wiped out when you conquer it: Strange, but whenever I conquer an enemy city, all the inhabitants vanish. Of course, I do not mind putting a few cretins to the sword but the entire populace? Ouch.
- Prestige a factor for city growth (reversed) : Oddness.
4. Research Tree: Now that I understand how it works, I like it. I think its even a bit better than the one in Galciv. The inter-dependant research between the three branches also makes for interesting choices. Still, one can never have enough research.
- Add more research!
5. Tactical combat: Honestly, we are about as far as the tactical combat in MoM I think. Block the foe from getting at your archers, rush forward with the choppy units and blast em with spells in between.
How to make me happier with tactical combat:
- Bigger tactical maps. Double at least.
- Impassable terrain
- LoS-blocking terrain
- City bombat should have walls and offer physical protection.
6. Heroes: Getting there. I like my heroes.
- Craftable magical items (like MoM... yes, everyone goes on about this. I want em too.). You can make an entire research branch out of craftable items, add it to the Magic Tree I guess. Yes, unbalanced heroes, but really, the MoM Human Paladins... magic immune... cast "Wraith Form" on them... and then they were both magic and normal weapon immume. Balance Schmalance, as long as the AI can do the same as I can it better hurt bad!
7. The Way of the World:
- Engineers please. Why can I not build the Great Coastal Road that connects all my coastal outposts so I can patrol them on a regular basis? This is MY Empire! Roads go where I please!
- Engineers please. I want to be able to build fortifications, or upgrade outposts to guarded walls.
- Boats... where are they or did I miss them?
- BIGGER. MAP. OF course, please couple with Engineers, and at least two road upgrades so we can travel faster along the roads. Quadrouple speed would be good. That way, as long as the Empire is connected to all its outer regions, it is cool. By that same token: Demolishment of roads would be a definate tool to have.
So, there's my 2 eurocents. Now I have to work again. I want to play FE!
