Having a fear spell trigger a morale check should reduce the chance of it being easily manipulated.
Why?
1. Though it will likely work on a peasant unit (with low morale), it has a much reduced chance of working on trained units with a higher morale rating. This increases the importance of fielding trained units that are less likely to be affected by fear.
2. I would think that fear spells would not work on summoned creatures. You could give summoned (or undead) creatures a morale of 100 to make them immune to fear.
Lord Xia, I agree with your suggestion that shaken units should not be able to attack at all and that they should be unusuable until rallied.
Question - Should a hero's chance to rally a unit be based on Charisma? (5% per charisma point)
- A 15 charisma would give a hero a 75% to rally a unit. I like this relationship as it 1) differentiates the heros with 2) a mechanic that is easy to calculate and 3) has relevance to the real world - i.e. a captain of high charisma is more likely to successfully rally troops than a captain of low charisma.
Question - Should each rally attempt cost the hero 1 movement point?
- A hero with 3 movement points can 1) move 3 tiles, 2) move 2 tiles and attempt to rally 1 unit, 3) move 1 tile and attempt to rally 2 units or 4) attempt to rally 3 units if it does not move.
Question - Should a hero's chance to rally a unit be reduced based on its distance from the shaken/broken unit? (-5% per tile over 1)
- A hero with 15 charisma attempts to rally a unit 1 tile away - 75% success
- A hero with 15 charisma attempts to rally a unit 8 tiles away - 40% success (75% less ((8-1)x5%))
- A hero with 20 charisma attempts to rally a unit 1 tile away - 100% success
- A hero with 20 charisma attempts to rally a unit 8 tiles away - 65% success
- A hero with 25 charisma attempts to rally a unit 8 tiles away - 90% success
Question - Should a unit make a morale check if it loses 50% of its component units?
- Example: A squad of 4 peasants loses 2 units. It must make a morale check.
