Since updating to the new beta, have been unable to get the game to start. Tried uninstalling, manually cleaning out the folders and re-installing, changing DNS servers, etc, disabling some security software, etc. Have also tried running the .exe from a shortcut, running from withing Impulse etc.
All other internet access is working. Impulse & Elemental are on my security software's trusted list, and the security logs say it didn't block anything at the relevant times. DSL modem lights indicate that there is quite a bit of traffic every time I try to start it. Never had this problem with the original beta.
The last time I tried to run 1.09n, there was a brief popup message about some file being corrupt -- it disappeared when the elemental start screen appeared, before I could read it. Windows event viewer has 2 items each from that time and the time immediately before, but no such events for the several other times I have had the file-download error message. Also no similar events about any other disk problems. (So, even if the disk is messed-up now, it presumably wasn't when the error started).
"Application popup: Elemental.exe - Corrupt File : The file or directory C:\Games\Stardock\Elemental\Gfx\HKB\Stands\Pewter_Stands.png is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility"

I'll be firing up chkdsk after I finish this post, just in case. It will take a while. Some crash zip files to keep you amused in the meantime

Edit: chkdsk says drive C is clean. Set it to do a pretty complete check, with /f /v /r, so I think I believe it. Still can't download the data file, but no corrupt-file warning this time. So the whole chkdsk thing is probably a false alarm.

edit: 11-23-2010 the re-login trick from another thread worked.
