Like many others here I was waiting for this game to come out for many months, and like many others I was a little disappointed in what we got. If your interested in seeing a what the magic system and combat could/should have been like, got take a look at the Age of Wonders series, especially number 2 and it's expansion. The combat even looks and feels better and it's 5 years old. It has the different Races like many people wanted and a tonne of cool spells for combat and global.
The horse has well and truly bolted now but if there would be one suggestion I could have made a year ago it would be to forget about all this zooming in and out on the main game screen, who zooms all the way in anyway ? The cloth map I think is a good idea, but I think the other map view should have been locked a certain distance out, then zoom in for city building perhaps. I think the zooming just adds a complication to game and graphics. Perhaps people do like the zoom function, do you ?
Anyway that's my small rant, maybe the game will be great down the road with mods and what not, but it could/should have been great from the start.
