Ruins should be a 2 part tactical map encounter; part 1 where the sovereign can venture with his armies and part 2 where only the sovereign and his champions can venture.
This enhancement would increase the importance of champions, as only they can accompany the sovereign into the dungeon tactical map. It is also more realistic - i.e. how many dungeons are large enough to accomadate a 100,000 man army.
The enhancement emphasizes the RPG aspect with its focus on Champion vs Monster combat (as opposed to army vs monster combat).
A. Surface Tactical Map - Which the player can enter with their armies. Each surface tactical map "may" contain a doorway to a dungeon tactical map. Only the sovereign, champions and small summoned creatures can venture through the doorway to the interior tactical map.
B. Dungeon Tactical Map - Only sovereigns, champions and small summoned creatures can enter a dungeon tactical map.
Sample Dungeon Tactical Maps:
- Cavern interior
- Dungeon interior
- Ancient temple interior
- Castle interior
Implementation Example
- Surface Tactical: Sovereign takes his army into a ruins tile and they defeat the giant spiders found there in army vs monster combat. (300 points vs 100 points)
- Dungeon Tactical: Then the sovereign and his champion enters the dungeon tactical map; leaving his army behind on the surface, to find the treasure within the ruins. In the ruins they find the Spider Queen and defeat it in man vs monster combat. (80 points vs 100 points).
