Whats the point with creating soldiers?

Hi!

First of, i love, love, love, the game.

But there is sum thing i was wondering about.

So my sovereign has summon spells, with them he can make units to watch his back.

The units are whery powerfull.

So, ather then city defense, whats the point in crating soldiers?

Its like this.

I start a game, reserch my summon pet spells, i cast them, i kill all the enemys.

At the same time, i build and expand my citys.

I create some basic defenders and by the time i have 5 citys the mobs showing upp are so powerfull that the soldiers are no match.

Creatures starts to have 22 health, do 15 damage and have 10 in defense BUT my solders still only have 5 health, but do the same damage and have the same defense.

So in a fight, my solders are getting killed like fish on land.

I have the upgrades that trains them to fight as a unit, but with out more life points they wont make it to the next fight.

So is there any way to create soldiers with more hit points?

Right now i need to go from 5 to 25 if they are to have any hope of surviving a fight.

Maby i missed somthing in the game that lets me do this, let me know if i have.

Please help me.

And again love the game, spent 5h playing last night.

Soldiers get a lot more powerful when you research those formations that allow parties, squads and companies. It basically multiplies stats by 4, 6 and 8.

You're limited in how many summons you can keep around, plus a good sized party of well equipped troops will wipe the floor with just about anything you can summon thanks to their magical attack stack.

Hitpoints are determined by unit size, and also equipment like the medic pack or magical items. If you're getting hammered by the wandering mobs though I suspect the problem is you're skimping on armour.

Individually soliders are weak, but if you search the appropriate technology from the WARFARE tech-three, you will be able to form group/party of soldiers.

Their overall HP, defence, attack and thus potential will increase a LOT, so you will see that they will become way better that the low-level summons.

In later game, the summons seems to offer diversity (with their powers) but your CORE will be composed of regular army.

Also, you can raise individual solider health by equipping them some special item (like the healer pack) and by improving their level of training (also a technology that you can research from the warfare tech-three).

I think the value in regular troops comes in when you can train parties and teams.

You can train 9 of a 10 attack, 8 defense solider, but you would have a harder time casting Summon Bear 9 times.

Adding HP I think happens with the experience training [i.e. the research skill under Warfare] (for some reason I want to say experience doubles their HP - but don't quote me on that) and there's an item you can add on when designing a unit (medic pack or something) that adds some HP.

Though, I understand what you mean, and early on I do the same thing until I can get some quality equipment researched. Perhaps if all summons had a limit of 1 or temporarily took essence until they were killed (i.e. you have to use some of your essence to keep the bear under your control). This would also increase the value of the monster units the diplomacy tree gets you - a way to add to your forces without tapping essence.

There's also a veterancy upgrade in the war/conquest tech tree that exists entirely to give them more HP, which should solve your problem.

You'll need to research the logistics line of techs. They allow you to group soldiers as a single unit, effectively multiplying their attributes.

A unit of 9 peasants armed with boar spears, for instance, would have an attack of 81 and 45 hp at a cost of 72 gold and 18 material and only requires 4 warfare.

As you get further techs you'll also get the option to recruit veteran troops, the most veteran getting about 20hp per man, at no extra cost but recruitment time. When you get the best weapons and armors you can make units with attack, hp, and defense in the 4-500 range. Such a unit would be costly though, in the line of 1k gold and high material/metal requirements.

Well that makes sens, i guess not having a manual or tutorial telling you this, is the reason i missed it.

Well right now my dude has 5 summons and thay can even do magic.

Granted they only do 1 or 2 dmg, but still.

Well i guess ill start working up the warfare tree some more.

Wile i have you in the thread, how do i boost my material production?

I found buildings that boost goold, food, metal, research but not the material production thingy.

Im making 20 gold/turn but still only 5 material produktion/turn from my 5 citys.

There is a building for it im shore, i just cant find it.

So looking forward to getting the manual and maby a video tutorial explaining the game for us.

Sounds like you haven't gotten any material "mines" (i.e. stone pits, old forests, etc) and are just working from the workshops in your cities.

But there are buildings you can research and build in town to boost the ather resources, shouldent there be buildings to boost tis as well?

I've seen one that boosts materials by 10%, nothing else off the top of my head.

If you play kingdoms you can build the Great Mill. It can only be built once but gives 4 material per turn. You need to research production to be able to build it.

Production tech line in civilization gives you more buildings that produce materials (Great mills)

I understand this but I want to take the single units i have already made and then stack them later when the ability to make a stack is researched.
