[Beta3][Bug] Game freezes on attempt to load save game

E:WoM froze when I attempted to load a saved game. Could not even alt-tab. I do not know if the last debugg.err file will have the information since I had to restart and not exit the progam from the task manager, but here it is nonetheless:

There is a report about this already. Wait until the background animation moves to the city and then try. Seems there is an issue loading a saved game right away for some people.

I have both actually. Takes a long time to load, but does eventaully. We're talking at least 3 minutes. And sometimes it freezes right away.

I attempted to do as you suggested. Loading a saved game as quickly as possible does no work, but I am able to alt tab to the task manager window I leave up and then press tab then space bar to close the game. But if I wait for the city to come my comp freezes and I am unable to even close the program. Ty for suggestion none the less.

I've yet to play a game that didn't (within 100 turns) end up with unloadable save games. It appears more quickly / immediately with custom sovereigns and kingdoms.

I actually finished an 800+ turn game today but I really hope this is fixed in 3A because it took me almost 6 hours to finish the game with constant crashing, saving backups, and doing the "waiting at the load screen" trick.

I am having the same problems. Windows XP, Intel Core2 Duo, GeForce 8800 GT

Its a particularly nasty crash because when it freezes I cant End Task my game - I tried ALT TAB, CTRL + ALT + DEL, Windows Key ... nothing lets me terminate the game gracefully. I have to do a hard reset on my machine which I loathe to do.

Anyone know of any tricks to kill the game when it freezes w/out hard reset? When you cant open the task manager? Maybe I can setup some hotkey to find and kill the process for me...

my understanding is that there is a known issue with initializing units. they posted in some other thread about a pending new beta build that might become available today. I don't see it yet so there might be some catastrophic issue they detected that is delaying it.
