Where's the "Death Magic"?

You got life magic, no death?

Taken straight from the "Lore" page:

a series of crystals that represented the basic elements of magic: Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Life.

Where's the Death Magic? Every Element up there has it's opposite except Life. It needs Death Magic to equal it out. }:)

Death Magic is overrated.:P

Also, I haven't seen any life crystals yet but I don't see why it should be a problem that Life/death Sovereigns share crystal. The same magic that can heal tissues can destroy them.

Life and death mana is present but not gained by crystals. Instead you only get either/or, depending on your race. So while the population probably creates that mana, the details are not known yet (and probably not decided anyway).

Life and Death magic are two sides of the same coin so to speak, The Sovereign of you race is a channeler, and his nature determines the nature of the “the 5th mana” If he/she is good then it si what we would call “Life” mana, if he/she is evil that it becomes what is called “Death Mana” but is all drawn from the same source, which is easiest to just call Life.

You could have called it the force, but then lightsabers for sovereign's would have been an absolute necessity.

I wouldnt say easy. Actually more confusing if anything.

Well what is death but the forced removal of life? No one ever said that just because you utilize life magic you cant kill anyone with it.

Excellent news :). Thanks for clearing that up.

Thought, maybe since it acts as both influences you should call it "Cosmic" Magic.

Cosmic is just too broad to the point of including... everything. Also, depending of the point of view there is no life nor death, only change.

So  will us map creators be allowed to create an AI opponent which has both "Death" and "Life"  mana?

Yes and no. It will probably not be possible to do from within the internal editors, but the sky's the limit when you consider altering the code.

Good. This'll prevent us from accumulating useless mana.

I would say it depends. If they treat magical nodes like "buildings" in the map editor then it may very well be just a simple "click" and change the name. Stardocks pretty good about stuff like that. You could rename practically anything in Gal Civ 2.

If not then Scoutdog is correct. Once you find the proper file and open it and find the string you could rename each one to "Fountain of Asskicking Goodness" if you wanted. Really anything will work here as long as the code doesn't have a pre-set limit on how long the name can be.

I don't think you quite understand how life and death magics work: there is no "node" that you ujse. The magic auto-accumulated using some as-of-yet-unknown formula that I think is actually lumped in with the economic and city-growth systems. In short, it is actually part of the game like, say, taxes, as opposed to a part of the map or character.

Um...dude they're already in the game. The Gems on the map, yea those. I've seen red ones "fire" and blue ones "water" etc etc. I thought there was a white one as well "life". I call those "Nodes" don't you? That's why you have to build a city next to them and then harvest them like a resource.

Double post, ingnore this one.

No, there is no life node. Currently you start with a bit of life mana but can't regen it in any way.

No, that is essence (maybe life magic will be tied to your remaining essence ?).

But you're right when you say there's no life shard : only water, fire, wind and earth.

Ahh. I guess I just never noticed one of them wasn't for life magic. oops lol.

Well, I should just verify it .. because I never saw something doesn't mean it doesn't exist

You start with both essence and life mana. The amount of mana you can have is limited by the essence so when you spend essence, you will see that white bar get shorter but it won't regen currently when you get more essence by leveling.

Not technically true... I've gotten odd amounts of life mana (I remeber having 14 MPs once) after expanding my  bar capacity, but I don't know how it got there.
