I am very glad that the Stardock forums to my knowledge do not censor and information-control to anywhere near that degree. That the user base is primarily pro-Stardock is of our own free will. And that means a lot. You know we can tell the difference when a forum is owned by someone's marketing people and everyone there is pro...whatever...only because they booted all the negative people. It's not to say that people here don't get modded every now-an
Hexes are superior to squares, this is common knowledge.
Maybe in game design. But as a coder, I would take squares over hexes any day. Your map is a 2-D array. It's not rocket science. Adjacency is really easy to determine: if abs(x[1]-x[2]) <= 1 and abs(y[1]-y[2]) <= 1 and (1 != 2), they're adjacent. Pretty simple stuff. And you're coding pathing and AI algorithms off of that. There has to be
The answer to that is easy: Quantity Which goes back to implying the people laid off were underperformers. Brad said before they were laid off through no fault of their own. In my field at least, we just count on losing $100,000 per every headcount of turnover. That's recruiting costs, admin overhead, training, lost productivity t

I am right here, I can speak for myself. You've got a company that is hiring and firing, almost simultaneously. That is an interesting event. And try picturing yourself as one of those laid off people witnessing this sometime. Unless these laid off staff were serious underperformers, most people would say you're better off simply reassigning the people you already have. Not to mention the morale hit you just incurred.

See there. "Galciv2 licks balls of golden icecream". You're not going to get a more glowing endorsement than that. There's 5 stars, 10/10...and then there's Galciv2. It licks balls of golden icecream. [e digicons][/e] [e digicons][/e]

He looks like a pretty young guy. It's possible at Firaxis he got walked all over by more senior guys. That's what it's looking like to me. And if that's the case, leaving Firaxis and getting your name off of Civ V is the right thing to do. If Civ V can't be saved, then at least cut your losses and try to save your own rep.

Here's an interesting cut-and-paste quote directly from the home page of python.org: Firaxis Games "Like XML, scripting was extremely useful as both a mod tool and an internal development tool. If you don't have any need to expose code and algorithms in a simple and safe way to others, you can argue that providing a scripting language is not worth the effort. However, if you do have that need, as we did, scripting is
The sad truth is, regardless of who Stardock had hired, there'd still be this level of "outrage" on the forums.
I have to disagree there. This isn't the only new hire Stardock announced, and Jon is the only one. Nothing personal against Jon. It's just you see the words "Lead Designer - Civ V" and "I hate Civ V", and put two and two together.... It's just a fact of life in the professional world: you can't afford to have your name at

I have to concur with Wintersong about the first line. Atheists try their darned hardest to disavow themselves of any religion, but the fact of the matter is, atheism is a theology unto itself, and it has extremists. So you're polytheistic, monotheistic, trinitarian, atheistic? They're all different buckets under the same tree. So... on to more interesting conversation. I'm familiar with Python. And I have to reluctantly admit, it is
They made RA3 for you then, its all boobs and bears [e digicons][/e]
Ah. There's Jon's mistake. Jon, in Civ IV, you had all the wrong Great People. Your Great People should have been Pamela Anderson, Cindy Margolis, Cindy Crawford, etc.. And they're all Great Merchants. All of them. Don't ask me what they're selling.
and I know that not every game can't make me masturbate... oh sorry for the harsh word. I mean, make me enjoy it like crazy.
Those are two different award categories in a game. For the former I think more in terms of the C&C series. I mean look at that GDI chick in the cutscenes. :) Oh and the Allied chick in RA2. But not Tanya--she's overrated. I also love those Shadow Maidens in HOMMV. Wowie! :) I e

Might I inject that Jon loves the WRONG wargame. No, no, not Panzer General. That thing is so outdated (at the least love Fantasy General--I mean come on, this is Elemental). Let me introduce you to the greatest Civ game ever: Rise of Nations:Thrones & Patriots. Yes. Trumpet blast. Confetti. And I'm wearing a cup, you all, so don't even think about kicking me in the balls.

Heck no. Do get Galciv2, but you can get it for far less than $50. Even the price on Impulse right now is $29.95. And I would hold out for $19.99.

Nice welcoming party for Jon. LOL. [e digicons]^_^[/e] I find it hard to believe anybody had a personal dislike for Jon or even that many people here knew who he was. I think people just see the words "Lead Designer - Civ V" and put two and two together. I know I do. But then...everybody starts saying the Lead Designer of Civ V had nothing to do with Civ V being bad??? Insult my intelligence all you want, you're not going to g
