What we need is a chef Gordon Ramsey for gaming. Put the food on the hot plate, the head chef inspects it. And if it is not up to par, it doesn't go out; even if it means the people do not get served. If the whole thing is a failure, shut the kitchen down. In gaming, this position has been regarded as "unnecessary" and they slashed it.

That's great that Elemental sales grew for 3 months. But realistically, I think January will be the first month that run ends and sales will drop (unless something major is in that news). I haven't bought it yet, though, so I can honestly say there is at least 1 more sale yet to be made.
Stardock's talent pool seems too entrenched in Windows. For better or worse.... Plus I am very concerned about the video and sound drivers on Linux. You would have to target Mac first and foremost, and then any other flavors of Linux come just as a bonus. Granted, the market is wide open for some gaming company to go in and release their latest-and-greatest games to Mac and Linux--preferably games that work well on laptops, because that's what Mac is doin
The sign of a true Stardock fan: if you spend midnight New Year's Eve checking for the new Impulse specials.
I'm thinking in terms of the 1TB network drives--or really 1 or 2 SATA drives and fit them in those external casings that turns them into network drives. But capacity is not really my primary concern--I'm more worried about the web browser thrashing my SSD drive with tons of writes. Anyone know of any laptops that can take 2 SD cards at the same time? That would be ideal, I'd think.
Civ IV is looking to be worth the $6 I paid for it. I played IV when it first came out, but now they've got all the expansions and patches. Looks like the enhancements are mostly "you spoke we listened" type things. It's pretty fun now. The problem is just that the fun is spread out over many, many hours, like all the Civ series are. You sure burn a lot of your life to see how all your strategic decisions pan out. I think I like how Sins o
what more could a man want?
To quote from two well-known wise-guys--Beavis & Butthead--lots of beer. Yeah. Yeah. And uuuuuh...sluts. Uh huh huh huh. Huh huh. Yeah. Yeah. Beer, and sluts. Yeah Yeah.
People are talking in terms of 2 drives on their laptops. Only the big laptops have 2 bays (?). What about having only 1 bay and that is an SSD?
I must be awful--I worked. [e digicons]>:([/e] It was such a great time for getting things done, no one else being in the office and all.
Yeah, I was thinking that. I don't think I even want to thrash VM. I would rather have the crash. But there's still the temporary internet files from your browser.
Bought CIV IV Complete based on the recommendations from this board. Hope I don't regret it.
when you say "would certainly make things worse if allowed to run that way".....do you mean in general even when no smell is emitting. Or should i just turn the thing off when the smell eminates which is only when im running one program. (So ill just not run that program)
If you're getting the smell, then you're definitely letting things get worse if you keep running it like that. If you're not getting the smell, things will probably still get worse over tim
Somebody noticed?
Oh, also the voltage coming out of the wall could be not so good. It happens more often than you might think. They've got $20 voltage regulator things you can plug into the wall, which for really expensive integrated circuitry is probably a good idea anyway.
If the voltage is not regulated properly, the bleeder diodes on all the circuitry will short out and could cause that smell. That's what they're designed to do. That could cause things to melt, but that is only the symptom; not the cause. Although it would certainly make things worse if allowed to run that way. I would go after the power supply first. Another possibility is a motherboard problem, but that is so expensive and so unlikely I wouldn't go
I got the Dragon Age for 50% off. So far made it through the opening scenes. Just not getting into it quite yet.
These are new times. If you've got a good game, pay the game sites to advertise it and tell the retail outlets to kiss your behind.
You'll need v1.1 for this.
Crap. And just when I thought we had a security hole. :D
We need a patch that brings back Aphrodisiac, Mind Control Center, and Tir-Quan training as wonders you can build. What makes this patch request ridiculous is that I haven't even played the game.
I've got SMAC all boxed up and never played. Not sure if it'll even run on Vista.
Merry Christmas to all the Stardock staff and feel free to sell me King's Bounty Platinum Edition for $9.99 anytime.
Civ IV was a huge disappointment for me. I played one game on Small and...there went 50 bucks. Not as big a disappointment as when I bought Supreme Commander 1, though--I bought a $100 Nvidia GTX card and a power supply just to play Supcom. The game ran beautifully after I upgraded my box--I just didn't like the game. Man, that sucked.
I liked III better, but I never stuck around on IV long enough to appreciate the expansions. Apparently IV got better over time. On III you spend a lot of your time micro'ing all of your workers. And too much of the game rides on getting your first great leader.
I guess I'm just looking for a little more reassurance that other people configured their laptops with their swap space, cookies, etc. on their SSD drive (and they've been doing okay for awhile) before I go out and get a laptop with nothing but a 128GB SSD.
To open up an old thread: I'm kind of looking for my next laptop now, and I've been holding out for a good SSD drive. Any new advice on this? I hate to buy a laptop and then fit it with an SSD, knowing I just paid for a brand new hard drive I'm not using. Unfortunately that's what it's looking like for all but the very high-end laptops, $1500 and up. Some of the high-end 17" laptops have two bays, so I can swap out one with an SSD.
