Thank you much. I should actually post about this in more depth with screenshots. I am doing it correctly and something's failing when I click "Apply" in the properties dialogue box.
You could've saved yourself about 30 minutes by just using cheats and gifting a ton of transports to the enemy... and yes, it does crash, even in the most simplistic game. I just cheated up to Transports, teleported to my neighbor, gifted him a transport and then declared war on him, he instantly tried to invade Dratha IV and *crash* <IMG id=ImageResize_Image_4 src="http://images.stardock.com/smiles/BigSmile.gif" onload=ImageResizer.createOn(this); align=absMiddle borde
The Thalans are a joke now. Thier super abailty is useless with no factories.
What? They have factories. Very expensive factories, but factories nevertheless. Considering how cheap they are to make, I believe their super ability is functioning properly in this regard. The real problem is not noticing the maintenance cost and building too many... not that I did that. Once.

So I tried to see if I could get a crash by forcing an invasion. I started the Dread Lords campaign, set the difficulty to challenging (which before has managed to get me invaded as soon as the Drengin builds some transports. I let it run until I was sick of the turn button, and the Drengin did nothing but build ships and immediately destroy any ships that the Altarians or I built. I even gave him all the technology I researched, but he just sat there with his four worlds and refused to invade.<

It's been explained before that you don't actually kill all of the population on the planet when you conquer it, you simply smash all resistance. Of course, spore ships really do kill everyone.

The Altarians could use a few more alignment techs, and they don't get access to any of the standard good, evil, or neutral techs. I realize they're still under construction, but you only get additional techs if you pick "Good." I think the weapon and defense techs open up normally for evil and good respectively. I know I have access to the defense techs, at least. Just no "Good and Evil."

Another weird one: I clicked on a Yor colony ship to see its movement rate, to see if it would beat my colony ship to a planet both were aiming for. After doing so, I went to buy a colony ship, and the colony ship I wanted to buy was replaced with a Yor colony ship: It's not even the one I clicked on, which was using the Constructor hull.

Altarian Tech: Paradise Worlds. It's supposed to provide +10 planet quality. What it does instead is update your worlds' rated PQ, but does not actually make more tiles available. Try: Tools > Settings, click on "Internet," and then "Refresh XML data." If that doesn't help, try changing servers from the same menu.

I kind of wish that Minors would just get a "minor race tech tree" that doesn't give them access to any unique/race-specific techs and does not include any of: Deeper Knowledge, Galactic Understanding, Near Omniscience, Beyond Mortality, Technology Victory
+ FIXED: Bug where if you disband a fleet, ships would have more moves than if you removed the ships individually
Okay, so I have a fleet with two escorts and a terror star, the two escorts with 12 mp, and it's the start of the turn. I remove the terror star from the fleet manually, the remaining fleet should have 12 mp? Or will all the ships have 1 mp if I disband the fleet? That may seem like a silly question, but the way the bugfix is described implies that th

So I started a two-player tiny game to check stuff out, and I set up the Thalan as the other race. Before I could even click on planetary tile to set up construction of anything, the Thalan built a Hyperion Matrix. They were that fast.

Well, these were spread out over a period of four years, and usually only for a couple of months... And I played some rather regularly (City of Villains, for example) and others hardly at all (Auto Assault). I mean, it's not like a billion games went into beta over a three month period. :)

I've been in betas for The Matrix Online, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, Kohan: Kings of War, City of Villains, and Hellgate: London, and IME some betas are fun, some are not. It depends on how much the devs interact with and listen to the players (when the players aren't being purely self-interested or dumb), how good the gameplay is, how reported bugs are addressed, and so on. It's a bit too simplistic to just say that betas aren't enjoyable. :)

Didn't SMAC have a "keep playing" option after you won? I think this would be a cool feature, even if I never used it.
