I really like your post and I wasn't trying to offend you or anything. You are one of the few people to come here and actually provide real critique and not just a blather wall of whiny text. I personally like the customization. I can build a faction that are a cult of death worshipers that don't wear armor and cast evil spells. (Well my sov at least) I agree that a default sov can have some set units with little customization but I don't to be forced to choose between archetypes

It's just that having too much at the expense of uniqueness and flavor probably isn't. It sounds like the same design issue that Jon mentioned in his blog before - namely that more choice doesn't necessarily equate more fun. But here's a compromise so indulge me fo

What about all of the drug related murders? I'd much rather take my chances with a burger and

If I could get much larger map sizes and new stamps to make my random generator generate cooler random maps I would gladly buy a pack that included maps, but buying just a map pack is a waste of money in a 4x game that already has a pretty powerful generator and very powerful modding tools.

I like the FE has a lot of different play styles that can work. I have found for me that settling 4 - 5 cities at the beginning and building up a nice champion army supported by some rank and file units then I can get a nice force to roll into midgame. It is more of a turtle style game play in my opinion. I tend to remain fairly isolationist until I have a lot of research or a strong army amassed - then when someone starts knocking on my door I go and bust theirs down. Usually by midgame

At least in Total War similar kingdoms have different starting locations. Sure a single unit difference may exist late into the game, but that they're still practically identical. Wait, wait... are you r

I have Kickstarted at least a half-dozen indie games in the past several months, and every one of them has let me redeem it on Steam. I have purchased 7 Humble Indie Bundles, and every one has given me Steam keys for the games. None of these projects can possibly have MORE resources than Stardock. If Stardock wanted to give us Steam keys, they could, but for some reason they refuse. I would be much happier if I could r

Honesty Frogboy, I as a lover of FE wouldn't buy a map pack - especially at $4.99. I haven't even played the ones that have came with the game. I'd rather play random maps. If you added maybe a couple new civilizations that had their own special things that would be sweet and it would be worth $2.50 each.

Can I design a henchman with say 1) 3 traits (cook, bard, scout) and do not provide any skills etc to it? What is the disadvnatge of doing that? It would be the perfect supporter (better without the scout, but still..) I think that would make a pretty weak henchman in my opinion. I would give mine life magic, shield wall, and something else. It's going to make him very expensive to build if you lob on three of tho

Hey, and if you screw up your champs bad enough before level 4 you can still turn him into someone that just sits on his ass and does nothing while giving your benefits.

Civ 5 was a bad game, Civ 1 - 4 were excellent games that kept me playing probably 500 hours in total. HoMM were okay, not really my style but they were decent for what they were. I like your review, but calling Civilization simplistic game play really shows you never actually tried to delve into the games. This game takes a lot for Civ, a lot from MoM, and a lot from GalCiv 2.

After reading through this thread I think most of the points you make are just objective and are from the point of view of someone outside of the niche 4x genre. What other 4x games have you played? Seriously set down and devoted a hundred plus hours into? I personally put 200 hours in on Civ 3 and at least that on Civ 4 + FFH2, not to mention the hours I spent on Alpha Centari, X3, Colonization, and several others. The truth is that these games are an acquired taste and if you don&

Macs are overpriced for what they can do. They no longer have the special business software or creative software they used to have. Everything you can do on your mac I can do on my PC cheaper and more user friendly. I don't use Windows 8. I probably won't. I am sticking with 7 because I really like it and it works very well. It's like all of those people still using XP S3. They like it, so they keep it.

I have noticed that these forums are so much more mature and can carry a discussion and even arguments without them devolving into trolling and ignorance. I am a regular with nearly 5000 posts on another forum and the forum is large and has a huge moderation team that has a turn-over rate higher than a McDonalds griddle.

What about turning spies so they're double agents? Is that possible? It might get a little convoluted though. Maybe you send a spy to an enemy city and if the sov is in the city there is a certain % chance to capture the spy. You can either execute or turn him into a double agent, but he would cost a certain amount of influence. Just brainstorming here.

I thought warlock was a terrible game. I played as much as a I could and then discarded it. It was like Civ 5 painted with a fantasy brush with some very poor mechanisms. I felt that Warlock was a very boring game and could have just been a Civ 5 mod where it would have been passable at best.
