Chose? As in past tense? Sounds like you never intended to give Civ 5 a chance. Sorry, but that kinda makes me doubt your credibility and sincerity and simply screams fanboy. I think with the exception of Civ3 (and even that one to some extent), each game in the franchise has brought something new and exciting to the table. And since FFH is one of the best mods for any game ever made IMHO, it's hard to not feel excited about what the future

Sorry but "this game is primarily sandbox" and "strategy games don't need a story" seem like weak cop outs to me. If they don't need them or this game isn't about that stuff, then emphasis should not have been placed on the lore nor should the button labeled 'campaign' be present on the opening menu. Why is it so hard to just admit that it is severely lacking? No, it shouldn't be a priority at this stage, but lets not just pretend it's fine
To be honesty, I really do like the overland map and cloth map thingie, that is actually pretty slick and looks pretty good. The terrain elements however, do not look so great to me (and not just in tactical). The ragdoll stuff looks hideous to me though... That's just me. I don't need it to look like HOMMV, but several years later, that game's art seems more polished than this ones...
Campaigns only exist in adventure games? I for one, care about the campaign. Story has always been part of a good RPG, and this game still has RPG aspects, right? Hmm... maybe I should re-evaluate that...
It's not a bug, it's part of the reason why the game is getting lampooned by most critics. Maybe this will get beefed up in a patch or expansion, but do not adjust your set, you won't get any better reception.
Matt is here.
I love you rune. You come up with the most laughable stuff when you have absolutely no good argument. It makes my day.
For the same reason we can't have elves or dwarves. Lore.
You're ignoring all the 'taken for granted (by players)' stuff in writing software which has already been completed, but okay. The point wasn't to specify some arbitrary % complete which has no meaning, the point was that it's fixable over time and doesn't need a total rewrite (which would be a fail).
I guess that's what I'm saying. I feel that some of it DOES require a total re-write. Some of the stu
A dead sovereing with no heir means game over...
Pretty sure even if there there are sons/daughters/grandkids, it's game over. The game has no concept of 'heirs' as such, I believe.
I don't know why people are calling Elemental a "fail", an initial let down sure, but was GC perfect on it's initial release? Elemental is about 80-90% there, all it needs is some big updates and maybe an expansion. Not the end of the world.
That really scares me. I hope stardock doesn't feel they are '80-90%' there. If they do, I'm going to deeply regret hanging on and not seeking a refund.
Quoting wayninja, reply 79Seemed to be a pretty reasonable articulation of what the game is not. Bingo. A game should be reviewed for what it is and now what it isn't. Heck, even StarCraft II could be given a low rating if you judged it based on everything it isn't. Judged on its own merits, I think Elemental deserves a 7.
Ok, let's judge it on what is there instead of what is missin

Refunds are only available for fully-released programs. So, sorry, think you are out of luck. That has nothing to do with Elemental which is a fully released product.
You sir, are impervious to sarcasm.
Yes, that would be clearly wrong. I'm still having trouble figuring out how to tell the minor factions from the major ones though. I've definitely seen factions do 'nothing'. Although now I'm thinking that maybe they were a 'minor' faction. Is there some indication that I'm missing that the faction is 'minor'?

Joan Crawford??? Ewww... I'd rather see the trog naked...
I'm curious as to the definition of "ironic" you're using. Besides, back then Gamespot was still in the same business of IGN of pumping everybody's scores to the sky equally.
The 'ironic' whereby there is an implied incongruity between the score given by gamespot for Elemental (which was artificially deflated) and the Score for the Galciv2 expansions (which you now imply were artificially inflated).
I was more getting at if its worth getting / mostly finished now (i.e. 1.07)
Well, 'worth getting' and 'mostly finished' are not really related, at least as far as the love/hate goes. IMHO, the game is nowhere near 'mostly finished', but for some people here, they feel that it's still 'worth getting'. I don't believe this however, I simply can't
As quickly as what? Not making it travel across the country in the first place? That MIGHT make sense if resources weren't global. Since they are, caravans are simply causing food to multiply in transit. I guess the world is magic after all...
Well, we have a few of these threads already, but I'll go again, why not? It all depends on your financial situation and tolerance for some pretty big game issues. If you are 4x fanatic and have a fair amount of disposable income, go for it. If you only pick/play the 'cream of the crop' or are on a tighter budget and need to make every purchase count, I would say hold off for 1.1x and check the feedback on that patch/version.
It doesn't make any sense because a wagon going from A to B should not magically increase the amount of food. Gold makes more sense because moving product to more favorable markets can increase the income from said product.
It's sad that every thread gets high jacked like this. I support SD in getting the game to where it should be, because hell I want to play it. This constant bickering and shit is not helping anything. Wow, the graphics in your post are somehow better than in-game.
