Also, as many other posts have mentioned, no one is asking for 10,000 individually controlled units. As an illustration, 8 Full Battalions of 100 6 Companies (or whatever) of 50 = 1100 units, and only 14 commands to issue each turn. This is hardly overwhelming. If it is too much for you, you may want to see your physician for some ADHD meds...
You're right. Hell, I'd be happy with battles of onl
TES example is not handicapping yourself at all; that's playing to the strengths of the character you designed. That's great. Elemental doesn't do that well.
Like I said, role-playing and game mechanics are mutually exclusive. If I decide that my character is afraid of water, then I can decide to never build ships in my game. If I decide that blood makes him queasy, then I can decide to never build soldie
I'll start by saying that I disagree with the OP. The AI should be a lot better than it is, and we shouldn't have to handicap ourselves to make it challenging. HOWEVER... I consider Elemental to be very unique among 4X strategy games in that it has huge amount of role-play mechanics within it. Good role-playing games are peculiar things because to get the most out of them, they require the player to do things that are not built directly into the game itsel
I'll start first. My favorite "Let's Play", hands-down is Let's Play Morrowind by GixG17 . It's over 130 sessions and counting from a first-time Morrowind player. It's pure gold.
Who watches "Let's Play" videos? I love them, but while some are downright terrible, others are fantastic. If you have seen a good "Let's Play" video, share it with us here.

I've seen most of the previews of Civ 5 and despite everyone telling me that *this* is the one with -major- changes, I still don't see it. Civilization 5, at it's heart, is still Civilization 1 with more bells and whistles. It's still a linear romp through the same old history that we've seen before: Settlers, Workers, Phalanxes, Knights, Musketmen, Infantry, Artillery, Nukes, Space Components, bla, bla, bla. I started the Epic Battles thread so I'm obviously all for this. Signed. [e digicons]:digichet:[/e] I just want to point out something: Battles of this size are ALREADY possible in Elemental, even though they are extremely rare due to the way the economy and AI works at this point. So for those complaining that this would require a super computer to run, large-scale battles can already happen in the game. We're just asking that the
Good post overall, but I disagree with you about increasing influence generated by cities. The whole reason I like this idea is precisely because it does allow choice: players who don't want to spam cities no longer need to, players who do want to spam cities still can. Right now I have no choice, I have to spam level 1 cities to fill in the gaps between my big cities that actually have resource nodes. I do not want to be forced to do this. Bu
Making a city cost 1 food isn't going to stop city spamming. First of all, there's the problem of the capital city, which will starve as soon as you found it. Secondly, the way caravans work right now, making a city and sending a caravan to your highest food city will more than make up the 1 lost food. You'll usually gain 2-3 even, even more as you expand further outwards. Essentially, if you make cities use more food, people will have to build even
If you read through that whole thread, you'll see a lot of suggestions on how to implement this in multi-player. Most agreed that labels created during matches would be persistently shared among all players. However, the power to label the map would be limited to the landmarks that fell only within your faction's Zone of Control.

During development Frogboy stated we would be able to label stuff on our maps: "...at the cloth map level, you’ll be able to label the world as you see fit. Give deserts and swamps and forests names. It’s purely cosmetic but it’s about making the world yours." Is this a planned feature still? Obviously it shouldn't be a high priority, but it still sounded pretty cool at the time for the

This was critical when I had one city with 2 gold mines and was trying to eek every gildar out of it. Haha. Nice. I'm totally going to adopt this method until the level up
I say buy it. I have not had this much fun with a turn-based strategy game since Civilization 2, I hated GalCiv2 and Civilization 4. From what I'm reading here, that's not currently t
