Yeah, 90% of the game currently is spam cities and armies. You basically have to rush to be competitive. Play this like you do starcraft/starcraft 2 and you will do well.

Yeah it is one of the things that bother me. All of the nations are filled with evil bastards. WTF!? Why is every single person in elemental a warmongering psychopath? The only way to keep the peace is by having the largest army anyone has ever seen. Since all the AI does is spam cities and armies, it means you have to no matter what victory condition you want to go for. I could see some cultures being warlike... but all of them? Really? Download dox box and run it with that. Should work fine. Dosbox is free. I think with current versions you can just drag the game exe onto the doxbot exe and it will auto run it for you.

Are you using doxbox? When i have I have had no issues with sound on dos games.

Yeah the unit cycling stuff was driving me insane.

Mega custom is the main key. You had a huge amount of ability to play the way you wanted to and have a chance to win.

You have to take that boat the game spawned for you and travel all the way around the map (it takes eons) to land on the other side of the wall. At that point you get a message and can move on.

Yeah, they need some help, but since they are already planning to rebalance champs/sovs so perhaps this wont be needed after that rebalance.

I don't mind that city spamming is a strong strategy so much as I dislike that you have to have 30+ cities just to have a reasonable income of the various materials you need. Assuming you are not just going to abuse the current poor AI, you are forced to spam cities, which I hate to do. I just wish they would add something to make playing a game with only 2 or 3 cities actually possible without abuse of current game mechanics that are will change in the near future.

There are mods out that make shards work properly. Just do a little looking around.

Hire a champion of the opposite sex. Click the ring in his/her action menu. Much easier if your sov is female.

Yeah all of the factions are apparently super warlike. The only way they wont declare war is if you have a much larger army than they do.

Yeah, I would prefer a more complex and interesting game. I think the worst issue with the gaming industry is that most games are dumbed down so everyone can do well. While this does help sales I suppose, it also kills the sort of games I have always enjoyed. ;/ It seems all most companies care about now is producing a nice cinematic so that we are fooled into thinking there is some content underneath it. Does diplomacy have some use? Normally the AI values it's stuff in the 40-50k range and mine in the 1-200 range. Even if i am consistently destroying any AI army i see.

Yeah, I agree about the game being fun even with it's issues. Most end product games I buy give me less enjoyment than elemental has. People just seem to get caught up in the bad and totally miss all the good things.

yeah, I have MoM :) Unfortunately I have played it WAY too much. If only it was heavily modded ;)

MoM Also allowed VERY custom wizards. On top of selecting which schools of magic to invest in you also selected the degree to which you focused on them. You could spend all your creation points on one school of magic and dominate with it, but be weak everywhere else. You could also reasonably focus on leadership and military talents with very little interest in magic and still do very well if you played well. It kills me that the AI players are like "Hey man, we both have kids who are old enough, want to get them married?" The when you actually offer one they say "WTF why would I want my kid to marry yours? Get away from me you loser!" Just figured I would mention it in case it was being overlooked.

I am glad to have purchased it. Will you be? I have no clue. There are still some issues but the game is fun. All of the win condition boil down to having a superior army to the AIs which bothers me, magic still needs some work, and there are plenty of other issues, but as I said, it is a fun game. I enjoy elemental more than I enjoy 70-80% of games I buy and it is constantly being improved.

Just as the title said. Are shards working? I didn't see a fix in the patch notes, and i have been too busy to see for myself.
