I second that. The battles don't need to be much more complex, the focus must be on the units and their special abilities/resistances, they have to be more complex. Combat in Master of Magic wasn't that complex, it was engaging because every single unit had at least one special ability and magic wasn't as useless as in Elemental.
I think it's still bugged at the moment. There are supposed to be maintenance cost, you can see all the permanent spells listed in the "Enchants" section of your sovereign/caster when you click on them, but I do not really see any penalty to your maximum essence.

That's very nice indeed! May I use your information in the Elemental FAQ thread? It would benefit the thread a lot, I think. I will dedicate this section to you and state your username.
Good idea. I changed it accordingly. If anyone has a question, please state it in here so we can collect and compile them.
Maybe you forgot to raise the immediate cliff/beach that is connected to the land. It's not enough to raise the first water tile. It is possible to walk over raised land, I did.
now it looks more like it...
Try deactivating Anisotropic Filtering if you haven't already. It drains a lot of power.
You all forgot the REAL reason why the game does not have hexes: It is far easier to program and mod with a square tile system compared to hexes. Since I assume that we all like a highly and easily modable game, it may not be the perfect decision to stick with squares, but it is the right decision.
yeah, I think that's better... [e digicons]^_^[/e]

If you don't have enough money to hire a champion, the talk option is automatically deactivated.
well, plus different monsters that you can train, a few different items you get to equip and slightly different focus on city improvements. It's nothing deep but it's a little bit more than cosmetic.
It's in the diplomacy tech tree, so you seem to have missed it.
Hrmmm wella what do I need just to improve Civilization techs faster??
Arcane research (magic and spells) is provided by ancient temples. Tech research (technology trees like Civilization and Imperium) is provided by lost libraries. Both research is also provided by certain champions and city improvements, but ancient temples and lost libraries are the main providers.
